DYLAN 2 ADDED I have added the new Australian various artists compilation DOIN’
DYLAN 2. I haven't
received my copy yet,
but the track list has been confirmed by those who have seen
it.
There isn't much really obscure on the collection, but many
well-known
covers that have thus far not qualified for DYLAN

can now be added.
Some might argue that several of the tracks aren't really covers since
they are duets with Bob, but I'm going to treat them as
covers .....Thanks

TOUR 1966: THE HOME MOVIES - BACKGROUND MUSIC BY HIGHWAY 61 REVISITED
The background
music for the video “World Tour 1966: The Home
Movies” is by Highway 61
Revisited. The home movies of Bob Dylan's 1966 tour were made
by
tour drummer Mickey Jones. Also features exclusive still
photos by
Barry Feinstein and Mark Makin, with narration by
Mickey Jones.
Produced and directed by Jones and Joel Gilbert of Highway 61
Revisited.
Although Dylan is the focus, Jones includes footage of other famous
people
he met during his career, including the Beatles in never-before-seen
shots
on stage in Paris in 1964. I've added the video to the ODDS
& ENDS page due
to the involvement of Highway 61 Revisited. The video,
available
as either VHS (NTSC or PAL) or DVD, is available exclusively through

HAVE CHANGED The transition to my new
webhost appears to
be successful. The website address remains the same, http://dylancoveralbums.com.
If you see "NEW HOST" at the top of this page (and on the MAIN
page,) then the page you are
viewing is being served
from the new host. It takes some time for the changeover to
reach
everywhere, so it's possible it may not have reached your
local ISP
yet. The new mail boxes are functioning also, with the same
addresses
as before. So if I hadn't mentioned it you probably would not
have
noticed! While I don't expect any problems, if you
notice any
broken links, missing graphics, etc. please LET
ME KNOW. September

26, 2002 STUDIO
99? Some sellers are listing a Dylan Tribute CD by Studio
99,
similar to the recent additions to the NON-DYLAN
TRIBUTES page. These
Studio 99 tributes are by
Going For A Song / Maverick, the same label group that
released THE
HANAWAY BAND PERFORM THE HITS OF BOB DYLAN.
The
listings I have seen for the “Studio 99 Play Dylan”
show the same UPC number
as the Hanaway Band CD, so I am going to assume that for some
reason
the Dylan volume was credited to The Hanaway Band instead of Studio 99
but sellers are listing it incorrectly since it's from the same
series.
If anyone knows different please LET
ME KNOW.

FELIX REISSUE Julie Felix's
1982 album “Blowin' In
The Wind” has been reissued in the UK as an abridged CD under

12, 2002 THEY'RE
PLANTING STORIES IN THE PRESS The August 3rd issue of Billboard (“The
international newsweekly
of music, video and home entertainment”) mentions dylancoveralbums.com
in an article about Mary Lee Kortes and the official release of Mary
Lee Corvette's BLOOD
ON THE TRACKS (due
tomorrow 8/13). “Kortes' hightened career activity is
largely due to heavy Internet
response to the disc's initial release. “I sent it to dylancoveralbums.com;
it got a good review, and it got posted on other sites,” says
Kortes, who
also credits notice from Billboard and radio airplay by veteran New
York
personality Vin Scelsa for spreading the word. “I started
getting e-mails
from Iowa, California, Italy, Sweden, and Japan and was pretty
astonished
that people had gotten to my website.” [
www.maryleescorvette.com
].....Thanks
to HP for the Billboard tip As Mary Lee puts it in her liner notes, “I
burned some CDs at
home and sent one to Vin Scelsa, one to Billboard magazine, and one to
dylancoveralbums.com.
Then one morning I turned on my computer, went online, and had requests
from Sweden, Germany, and California for copies of this
‘record.’ And they
kept coming.”
A scan of YOU'VE
GOT TO HIDE YOUR LOVE AWAY
by The Silkie has been
added in the NEAR MISSES
section. The new scan is of a US stereo LP with a full-color
photo
& white title. The existing scan has a purple-tone
cover &
black title. Several sources I have seen explain the
variation as
early & later pressings of the album, but in my
experience the
stereo LP is in color, and the mono LP has the purple cover.
Can
anyone prove or disprove either theory? Anyone have a purple
stereo
or color mono? E-MAIL

COVER ON CD
Fantasy
Records has released “Two Sides
of Dave Van Ronk,”
a CD that combines two of the late folk singer's albums, one from 1981
and “In The Tradition,” his
1963 album that includes All
Over You. Recorded in July of '63, it
must be one of the
very first covers, especially of an unreleased Dylan
composition.
The uptempo track, with DVR backed by the Dixieland style Red Onion
Jazz
Band, is very different from all the other folkie covers of the
time.
for the Fantasy webpage for the CD.
Note: All Over
You was also covered by The Raiders
(formerly
Paul Revere & The Raiders), as a single in the
'70s, and
in Norwegian by Åge
Aleksandersen
on his Fredløs
/ Dylan
på norsk
CD. The track's full
title is If I Had To Do It All Over Again I'd Do It
All Over You.

May 30, 2002 THE
HANAWAY BAND Added to VOCALS is a
new UK CD, The Hanaway
Band...PERFORM
THE HITS OF BOB DYLAN.
The CD is on the “Going
For A Song” budget label. There is no info about
the band on the
CD, it's probably a generic studio band recording.
The album
is done in a soft-rock style, with arrangements not far from Bob's
original
recordings. Not bad, but not great either. I have
provided
a link to the label's website, although this new release is not shown
yet,
and they do not sell direct to the public. A seller in Scotland
has been selling the
CD on eBay for a Buy-It-Now cost of only $6 (£4).

is the new CD, BLOWIN'

As

title.
I bought it from a seller on HALF.COM.
My copy is printed in Canada, with a Quebec, Canada address (disc made
in US). If anyone receives a copy with a US address for
Madacy, please
let
me know. The CD is part of the
"Reggae Rocks" series,
which also includes “Here Comes The Sun: A Reggae

The Rolling Stones.”
All with artwork that reflects one of the subject's albums.

8, 2002 VIRUS
NOTES PLEASE
READ There have been
a lot of virus-infected e-mails lately, mostly with variants of the
Klez
virus, that exploits a vulnerability in Microsoft Outlook and Outlook
Express.
I have received many that appear to be from record sellers and others
that
I have been in contact with. One aspect of this virus is
e-mail "spoofing",
where the virus takes a random address on the infected computer and
inserts
that in the "from" field, thus making the infected mailing appear to be
from someone else. So if my (or your) address is in the
address book
of an infected computer somewhere, infected messages may be
sent
under my/your name. You can read more about Klez and e-mail
spoofing..HERE.
I have Norton Anti-Virus running on my PC, with the latest updates, and
it is stopping the infected messages. I have also installed
all the
necessary MicroSoft patches, run all the virus scans, and run the
FixKlez
tool... all have shown negative results, so I am reasonably
sure
my PC is not infected. So if you get any infected messages
appearing
to be from me, they most likely are "spoofed." May

May
1, 2002 UNCUT
INFO: Press
release from the UK music magazine: UNCUT MAGAZINE CELEBRATES
ITS 5TH BIRTHDAY
WITH A DOUBLE TRIBUTE TO BOB DYLAN
Uncut magazine is
to mark its 5th anniversary
with the help of the ultimate rock icon, Bob Dylan.
The music and film
title celebrates its latest
milestone with two different commemorative covers, in recognition of
Dylan's
40th year in music. Uniquely, each cover also features a
different
collectors CD of Dylan cover versions!
The first Uncut
cover, shown, features a photograph
of Dylan taken in New York in 1963. The image shows Dylan in
classic
folk singer mode with trademark corduroy cap, guitar and harmonica
holder.
The second shot was taken in London in 1966 during Dylan's first
'electric'
tour, when he caused controversy and consternation amongst his fans by
spurning folk music for rock!
Together the two
collectors' CD's (entitled
Hard Rain Vol 1 and Vol 2) include over 32 amazing covers of classic
Dylan
hits, with several tracks being exclusively recorded for Uncut by
high-profile
artists including Paul Weller, The Charlatans, The Waterboys, Johnny
Marr
and Echo and the Bunnymen, and are unavailable anywhere else!
To complete the
5th birthday issue, over 100
musicians and artists have voted for Dylan's top 40 greatest songs The
celebrity judging panel included Blur's Damon Albarn, Bryan Ferry, Bob
Geldof, David Gray, Radio 1's Mark 'Lard' Riley and American actor
Billy
Bob Thornton as well as Sixties legends and Dylan associates Joan Baez,
Kris Kristofferson and Richie Havens.
Allan Jones,
editor of Uncut, adds: "For more
that 40 years, Bob Dylan has been the most important voice in the lives
of millions. In the Sixties, in his amazing pomp, his songs
defined
the times with a brilliance unmatched by anyone. He was held
in awe
by even the most notable of rock's new aristocracy, including The
Beatles
and The Rolling Stones. Four decades on, his legend is as
strong
as ever. Dylan remains one of rock's great icons, his genius
undiminished,
his music as uniquely compelling as it was when he first set out to
change
the world."

HIGHWAY
61 REVISITED The Highway 61
Revisited CD, The
World's Only Bob Dylan Tribute Band, was released yesterday. My opinion: I
enjoyed it very much,
a good combination of faithful re-creation with enough of the band's
own
interpretation to keep it interesting.. The songs are drawn
from
Bob's 60s & 70s catalog, plus the more-recent
Oscar-winning Things
Have Changed, mostly faithful to the original studio
versions. Gotta
Serve Somebody and All Along The
Watchtower are
notable exceptions, they are based on some of Bob's live arrangements.
Leader Joel Gilbert's vocals sound remarkably like Bob, while avoiding
the pitfall of many tribute acts by not trying to sound TOO much like
Bob.
