Porco, Mike

Owner of Gerde's Folk City, the Greenwich Village coffehouse where Bob Dylan played his first professional date.

i met an old man one day while delivering furniture in ft.lauderdale in the mid 1980s . i was intriged to see framed pictures of this man with bob dylan joan baez and other folkies from the early 60s on his bookcases . i asked him "do you know bob dylan?" he said " yes he used to work for me , i owned gerde's folk city in greenwich village in the 1960s"
mr. porco offered my helper and i coffee and we sat around and talked for about an hour about bob and the folk scene in the village back then . you meet the nicest people unexpectedly on an otherwise mundane day !Ê
