Bob Dylan 2001.08.20 in Telluride
Newsgroups: rec.music.dylan Subject: Telluride Review From: Jason Robb ohmercy@home.com Date: Thu, 23 Aug 2001 03:21:32 GMT The Day (7-20) started out gorgeous, with clouds drifting across the baby blue Colorado sky and just enough sun to make for a pleasant morning wait in line. Then as afternoon came around it brought some decent rain showers causing everyone to go waterproof off and on for a couple hours. The rain let up about 45 minutes before Bob and his Band took the stage. At show time the clouds were hanging over the mountains, and later on the beautiful sunset that briefly accompanied a few of Dylan's tunes totally overshadowed the downpour of rain we sat through to ensure a good seat. After getting a spot on the lawn I checked the t-shirt tent for the latest in Bob-gear and contemplated if I could keep a poster in decent shape for the next three plus hours. Needless to say I left and returned after they got some plastic bags for safekeeping. Back at my seat I explained to my father (this was his second show in as many years) that when you smell the incense Bob is not far off. When he did take the stage Bob sounded great and he really put his little twist at the end of each line. Not too far into the show some guy was hauled off for taping, not to much sympathy from everyone, he was holding the mic as high as his arm would extend. It's Alright, Ma got my blood goin for the evening. Visions of Johanna was simply sweet. A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall was prophetic as the rain did indeed start up again, with everybody watching the mist come down the valley illuminated by the last of the sunset. It was amazing, uncanny timing. I always enjoy Don't Think Twice, It's All Right and this time was no exception. It Not For You was delicate and sincere. They rocked a little during Cold Irons Bound and Cat's In The Well brought about the band introduction. The Encore songs seemed to absolutely fly by but all of them welcomed with the hope of just one more please, Bob. Blowin' In The Wind sounds so good with the harmony, Charlie's voice comes through very nicely. Bob was not shuffling his feet as much at this show and the band was pretty short on smiles. Tony was kinda hidden behind Bob for most of the show and was unusually quiet. When the show finally wrapped up the rain returned, but no one seemed to care, we all just hoped Bob would come out just one more time, but it didn't happen. I'm so honored to have been part of seeing Dylan in Telluride, along with Mom, Dad, and my Wife . I would also like to thank KOTO, Telluride's community radio station for being so laid back when I walked through their door looking for one of the posters they had used to promote Bob. They were gracious enough to let me have a couple for a small donation. They also did a hell of a job in the Bob-gear tent and the people staffing the vendors were said to have been mostly volunteers. Telluride Town Park is definitely the most majestic place I have seen Dylan perform and quite a few precious memories were created that evening. Quite A few memories created in Telluride !!!
