I love that passage. So much, that I decided to google it so I could copy and paste the quote on tumblr......and it brought up this interview with a guy that pretty much lifts entire passages from chronicles and passes them off as his own thoughts.

Putting the song in front -- that´s some sort of key.
But there is an other key before that and behind, when he says:
" I knew the inner substance of the thing." ( of the old songs )

But at all - this proposition opens a certain view concerning social encounters -
I like this view, whether it is opened from Bob Dylans Grandma or by Plato.

Also the passage about " happiness is the road" it is interesting for me - it´s some
sort of riddle ...

You´re so fast -in having the quotes, Bob has used for his book ! You must be a deep
connoisseur of literature ! So please don´t mention my way of writin´- I´m just a German
- uneducated in more differentiated English writing . I enjoy much readin´ Bob Dylans Chronicles in English
- I see a lot of unusual words in it, or better say , I never heard before.

It is a problem for you, Bob uses this quotes without shame ??
For me - it´s no problem - but yes - I did not know, that they are quotes before you told me.

The main thing for me is, that the quotes were driven in a new context !
And this context has a lot of importance for me. You can call it naive - perhaps,
but the real "feeling" of me and a lot of other people concerning to live at that time and
to live in that western society (means USA, Europe, Australia ...) , which is a battle of
the fittest - just you can describe with this words: "It was like the unbroken sea of frost".
And " it is lame as hell" .
Hölderlin speeks about his time , and in some way it ´s still our time, as a time of darkness.

And Bob speeks in his songs of our time with this strong (own) words:
"There must be some way out of here !"
"World Gone Wrong"

There's much yet to be revealed about Chronicles. That's one of the works that needs in depth annotation.

Changin´ any way is appearing in such a lot of songs of Bob and also in
Chronicles .

There hundreds shapes of changes. Short time changes - day and night, long time changes - winter gone, spring come -,
very long time changes - How many years can a mountain exist before ... - changes on the surface, changes in some
depths, metamorphosis, changes you cannot perceive, changes of the ground, of the sea, growing up as a child, -
Don’t stand in the doorway - social changes, shift of society, the exciting power of change, the uproar, the cry for,
the beautiful floatin of some water, the violence of some riot, the enthusiasm of being part of some stirring moments,
isn´it an unamed miracle: we have peace in Central Europe since 72 years after thousand of cruelst wars, yes it is -
could be anywhere - I b...... - We shall overcome ! - the unseen movement from inhumanity to humaneness - the
movement of being uncivilized to civilisated structures, the power of inner movements, the joy of joining them, gettin
enthusiastic´perhaps is one of the main forms of changes, Leave your stepping stones behind, something calls for you ...,
going angry, turnin´peaceful, standstill, be quiet .

Bob Dylan - the song and dance man - and that´s it.
Being just a song and dance man - he had some influences in
life of some people , other song and dance folks , ...
He is a singular . One of the singular contemporary artists .

Chronicles is just a little book. At the same time it tells some
stories about Greenwich Village in 1961 and other stories about
how things have changed in these old days.

I like this part , this thoughts about "the process of some changings".

Like this part much. Bob writes about a walk through the city. Tells some thoughts,
paraphrases the famous sentence of Heraclitus.

I know, but I think it was a rather limited edition which is not available anymore (as far as I know anyway). Thanks anyway.

I loved the book, I particularly like the part where he mentions walking around whenever he couldn't get things going while playing with the Dead and walking into a jazz club (I believe it was) and being inspired to mix up and rework his songs in a way that would work for him now...essentially this sounds like the moment the NET as an idea began to take shape so it's pretty cool.

The story about him meeting Jack Dempsey and Dempsey saying he needs to put on some weight thinking he was wanting to be a Heavyweight . Bob would be fat as hell if he was a Heavyweight, he's just a small guy, always has been.

Also the way he described the city of New Orleans in the book was very captivating. Made me want to visit there (even though I still haven't)

I'm sure there's a lot about the book I've forgotten, but those are some of the things I remember.
