I've finally concluded my own perfect song sequence:

Most of the time (from TTS disc 3)
Where teardrops fall
Born in time (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8C5FS7_bEE unreleased)
Everything is broken
Ring them bells
Man in the long black coat
Series of dreams (from Side tracks), fits well as an epilogue

Oh Mercy without Political World, What Good Am I?, Disease of Conceit, What Was It You Wanted?, and Shooting Star...

Mercy me, that would only be about 60% perfect in my book. I do like the inclusion of Series of Dreams though.

Funny, eh!

Shooting star is better on Unplugged, in my opinion. The others you mention don't work for me at all...but wouldn't mind a musically better What good am I?

The performance of Shooting Star on Oh Mercy is perfect , and has never been bettered. If I was going to rejig Oh Mercy it would be:

1. Series of Dreams.
2. Born In Time.
3. Man In The Long Black Coat.
4. Ring Them Bells.
5. Dignity (stripped down version).
6. Most of the Time.
7. What Good Am I?
8.Disease of Conceit.
9.What Was It You Wanted?
10. Shooting Star.

Not huge changes, but improved by the 'Big Three' that were omitted, and Political World, Everything Is Broken and Where Teardrops..work better as outtakes/b-sides in my opinion.

Great album even if it could have looked like this and in the process ended up being a masterpiece rather than a minor classic:

1. Dignity (original Lanois production as found on Side Tracks)
2. Born in Time (TTS Disc 1)
3. Tv Talkin' Song (original Lanois Oh Mercy take)
4. Ring Them Bells (album)
5. MITLBC (album)
6. Most of the Time (album)
7. Series of Dreams (TTS)
8. What Good Am I (album)
9. What was it you Wanted (album)
10. Shooting Star (album)

Honourable mention to the alt take of Political World starting at the 13 min mark below - it's vastly superior to what he went with on the official release.

I see people turn on Where teardrops fall? and Everything is broken.

While Broken isn’t exactly Nobel stuff lyrically I think it’s an excellent performance and the words still fit in the middle of the shit.

Granted, Teardrops is a late newcomer for me - the words are there.
The steel guitar is too loud, otherwise all is well.

Shooting star is topped by the Unplugged performance.

But, Political world, What good am I?, Disease of conceit, What was it you wanted? (OK, nice harmonica) and Dignity, I beg your pardon?

Dropping Political World is fine any case. Everything Is Broken can cover for it.

The OP's OM only has 7 songs. That's a chintzy album.

MrJudasPriest’s tracklist is great. Are we talking about the outtake of TV Talkin though?
I’m glad the three song run of Ring Them Bells, MITLBC and Most of the Time wasn’t broken, they should be back to back.

What version of Dignity would it be? I’m just curious because id like to play your version of the album, if someone could help me with specific versions of songs that’d be great

My preferred Dignity is the version from Sidetracks which is complete and with the original Lanois production rather than the overdubbed Greatest Hits Vol III musicianship. TV Talking Song is this take from the Oh Mercy sessions

1. Exactly
2. As you know next quantum state is at 11, please try to make it up.
God knows with the harmonica, OK, maybe but then?

I like this, the dead weight from the actual album is (thankfully) removed. I’m gonna give this playlist a listen tonight!

Many thanks for this, didn’t know about it.
Didn’t Unbelievable also come to life at that time?

^Pretty much and what a wonderful double album it would have been. Kind of like the indescribable double album Empire Burlesque and Knocked Out Loaded could have been.

Why do so many of you have such a downer on "Everything Is Broken"?

It's one of Dylan's best ever songs. All the released studio versions are great in their own way.

It’s a boring list song that brings nothing to the table. “Ain’t no use jiving, ain’t no use joking, everything is broken.” Seriously?

^ yes, but musically it’s a great performance - and as stated, in the thick of it the words stand, I think

Compare From a Buick 6 (the outtake) and 5 believers, that’s where we are

Crisis of FAITH

Well, this is "Oh Mercy" for me. All killer no filler:

1 - "Series Of Dreams" (The Bootleg Series vol 1 - 3)
2 - "Political World"
3 - "Born In Time" (Tts)
4 - "Where Teardrops Fall"
5 - "Everything Is Broken"
6 - "Ring Them Bells"
7 - "Man In The Long Black Coat"
8 - "Most Of The Time" (Tts)
9 - "God Knows" (Tts)
10 - "What Good Am I?"
11 - "What Was It You Wanted?"
12 - "Dignity" (Tts - piano)
13 - "Shooting Star"

The song is fun and has some good lines. "Take a deep breath, feel like you're chokin."
"Every time you stop and turn around, someone else has just hit the ground." I know it's probably "something" else but I like my version. Bob changes his songs, too.

IMO, while I don't think it belongs in the pantheon of his best ever, it earns the little real estate it takes up on the album.
