I've been trying to track down info about something I can swear I read in one of the Dylan bios:

Bob's Dad saved a man's life on a bridge. It was before Bob was born or when he was a child. I don't remember if he stopped a man from from jumping, or what. But I remember that there was a detail that Abram put his own life at risk to save this person's life.

Does this sound right to anybody here?

If not, I guess it is someone else's Dad I'm thinking about...but damn, I really think this is for real!

Thx!

I hadn't heard that before. But I love it.

Random trivia but Abe Zimmerman died age 56
Bob Dylan nearly died at age 56 (histoplasmosis)

the story is something like that:

When he was sixteen, he’d seen a car smash into a telephone pole and burst into flames. He jumped off his bicycle, reached in and pulled the driver out, smothering the driver’s body with his own — risking his life to save someone he didn’t even know.

Thank you! I knew I hadn't made it up!

Wouldn't you know the source is Dylan himself.

I can't find this anywhere else!

On the web, there is a page devoted to Abram (sorry, I didn't save the link), and it is a lot of info. Very interesting detail about his polio and how it affected his mature adult life.

But nothing about this incident.

With Dylan, you never know! How many foster homes was he placed in? How many times did he run away and join the circus?

Do you think that it is true?

Did anyone check to see if this was in Time or Newsweek?

Good suggestion, I'll take a look when I have some free time.
