Hi there,

I'm a researcher (and a big Dylan fan) working on a documentary project where we dust-off archival footage from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's archives in Canada. One of these pieces of footage is Bob Dylan's 1964 performance on Quest, one of the earliest full performances--if not the earliest--still circulating.

I was hoping to speak to someone about the concerts importance and its place in Dylan fandom and the culture of Dylan tape-trading. And who better to contact than someone at Expecting Rain?

Please let me know if someone is available to chat about this, either via e-mail or over the phone.

John

John,
Thanks so much for this undertaking.
I will try not to hyperventilate in anticipation.

John,

Do you know where it was filmed?

My guess is either the old CBC HQ/studios on Parliament Street or perhaps the old CBC studio at 1140 Yonge Street (a Staples today)??

The Quest audio has appeared on many bootlegs, including

'Baby, Let Me Follow You Down'
'Majestic Bells Of Bolts'
'Dr Zimmerman's Original Old Time Hootenanny AKA: Who You Really Are'
'Paranoid Blues' (side 4 of the vinyl is all-Quest)

Instead of casting it out there and hoping something comes back, the researcher should just join ER and post his questions and followups here. We have several authentic Dylan fans on call, ready to discuss anything.

I know it was easily available in the mid 90's, and I thought it was quite something.

I'm surprised no one has asked what became of the lumberjacks.

Or a moderator could have passed on the email to a few dylanites in the know. The guys going to be wading through emails about god knows what from ER to next year

I'm thinking the opposite. No emails at all. Researcher might do well by searching ER for threads and then PM'ing those who seem to be in the know.

Definitely a lazy approach he's hoping to get away with

I’m surprised Karl allowed himself to be a proxy. Maybe I’ll put in a request to use him too. *yawn*

The forum quoting facility makes it hard to edit multi-quotes without screwing things up unless you're a computer nerd.
