My all time favourite is the Apollo version in 2003. Might have something to do with the fact that it was the first NET concert I got my hand on -

Awesome pedal steel from Larry Campbell!

Recorded version is just vanilla Greatest Hits II.

Barclays Center 2012

I guess I'm partial to this version because I was there, but this version brought me to tears. Fantastic vocal.

No one seems to agree with me, but I've always loved the version on Greatest Hits Vol. 2. Pull up your tent McGuinn!

I love every version... it's a beautifully joyous song with erotically vibrant undertones... it is impossible to do this song badly.

This song is perhaps the pinnacle of Dylans songwriting.

Folk who do not like this track really disgust and sicken me... only low life losers and ludicrous loonies don't love those lyrics.

NOLA Jazz Festival, April 26, 2003... with Dickie Landry joining the band on saxophone. A more beautiful, joyous performance of this song has never been played. Fantabulously incredible!!!

The basement noise version gets my vote.

I agree with you, it's the best version of this song.

The version of the Greatest Hits Vol. 2 definitely has a great charm to it, but I like a lot of the lyrical differences in the Basement Tapes version better, and I love the overall drunken good time feel of The Basement Tapes version.

The Greatest Hits II version is more beautiful and more polished, but the Basement Tapes version sounds more like guys just playing music and having fun, and writing great stuff in the process. I guess I just identify with the Basement Tapes version more because of that, but both versions are exquisite, and I'm proud to own them both.

I have a very special spot for this song in my heart because it was the song that got me into Dylan at a young age. I used to play the Greatest Hits version over, over, and over. It was also the first song I ever learned on guitar. There isn't a bad version, but Greatest Hits II wins me over. I'm too sentimental for it not to.

Looking on YouTube, it looks like the song was the ending credits of Bad Grandpa. I would never have seen that coming.

Nice to hear your goin' nowhere recollections. I've always had a soft spot for the same version on Greatest hits 2 too. I'd heard the Byrds version from Sweetheart of the Rodeo listening to my Dad's LP and so that McGuinn line really made it for me, I can't think of the song any other way

The Mary Chapin Carpenter, Rosanne Cash & Shawn Colvin version is pretty good.

It's not quite the end credits, but it's near the end of the film when he throws his wife off the bridge or whatever. I definitely didn't see that coming either, but the moment they choose to use it in the film is fitting.

Mine would be the two I have witnessed up close in Germany in 2005, in Wetzlar and in Erfurt, which both conveyed pure joy and exuberance. "Whoo-ee!" Great great stuff.

I like the one with the cat, but my favorite is Greatest Hits vol. II too. Especially when it's on Side D of Side Tracks, where it fits beautifully with the likes of acoustic "George Jackson" and "Up to Me".

I hadn't noticed that side effect of side tracks. Just these drawbacks: who amoung the neophytes will now get to experience the lovely way the applause of "Tomorrow is a long time" seems to flow so naturally into "When I paint my masterpiece" on More Bob Dylan Greatest Hits and the beautifully paced & sequenced Biograph unreleased stuff. My favourite side of archive material of all time
SIDE 4 BIOGRAPH Lay down - Subterranean- Don't believe you - Johanna - Grain of sand
