Barefoot, thanks for a great list.

You can definitely include me in. It had to grow on me, but it is now a great song and performance, as far as I am concerned.

I love Narrow Way. It’s in the top 8 songs on Tempest for sure. Ha! I’m not good at ranking. See my album rankings from a few days ago.

Not a fan. That riff just doesn´t work for me.
But you lot have fun. It´s probably me who´s wrong anyway (it isn´t, really)

I'm honored! Where are these club meetings, in the desert or the courtyard of the golden sun? I need to know so I can punch it into Google Maps.

Narrow Way is just another great song from Tempest, which might be in my top five Dylan albums (certainly in the top ten). Plus it sits between Soon After Midnight and Long and Wasted Years, two more amazing songs. Any topic that lets me to talk about that album is fine with me!

Still at least two stanza's too many (possibly 3), set against a seemingly never ending riff. An excess of just about everything. Only my opinion of course. If it is never played live, I will understand why.

Dylan's 21st century magnum opus

A psychosexual, political, religious elegy for the past, present and that which shall come

Dylan incorporating all he learnt about songwriting in the early to mid 70s and beautifully executed in Tangled Up in Blue

"Ever since the British burned the White House down." -- Dylan in both historical and prophetic mode; history repeats and all is meaningless, but the narrow way leads to he who drank from an empty cup and was buried and dug up

This far and away my favorite song on Tempest. But I was just listening to it earlier today, and for the first time felt like it was too long.
But then I think ALL the songs on Tempest are too long.

Tempest should be 10min
TinAngel should be like 7
Rollonjon should be whatever it is... like 10 minutes shorter.

Narrow Way would probably be just fine at 5min.

Damn, how I wish he’d break this out on stage!

Another interesting take on it, written a few years back on the site listed below:

The third track of the album, “Narrow Way” has a refrain which is multivalent but clearly references Jesus’ saying about the narrow way that leads to life (Matthew 7:13-14). In keeping with Christian teaching, the singer knows that he cannot possibly work his way up to God. He sings, “you’ll surely have to work down to me someday.” Dylan writes,

I've got a heavy stacked woman, with a smile on her face
And she has crowned, my soul with grace
I'm still hurting from an arrow, that pierced my chest
I'm gonna have to take my head, and bury it between your breasts
It's a long road, it's a long and narrow way
If I can't work up to you, you'll surely have to work down to me someday

Here the singer also compares himself to Saint Teresa of Avila, who is often depicted in ecstasy being stabbed in the breast by an Angel with an arrow. An image of the Saint graces the cover of the album. Indeed, the title of the record, Tempest, is more than just an allusion to Shakespeare’s play; it may also allude to the words of Teresa: “So it is, in truth; for I used frequently to recollect how our Lord, when the tempest arose, commanded the winds to be still over the sea.”

For some reason I never thought the "Heavy Stacked Woman" verse was biblical.
