Thought this could be fun and informative. Tell us whatever you want about the particular song, what it means to you or, if it's a rarity, where to find it. I'll start off with...

'New Danville Girl' from Tempest Storm bootleg of Empire Burlesque outtakes. Cheers, Andy.

Girl of the North Country.

My first love was a girl I met when the family was on vacation in the Upper Penninsula of Michigan. We were from Indiana, so to us that was North country. The song brings back some fond memories. However since I've been happily married to someone else, it's only a fond memory and I wish her well, that's all, just like character in the song. I sometimes feel almost like Dylan wrote that song just for me.

Dirt Road Blues from Time Out of Mind.

Excellent blues riff and sweet lyrics.

Great rhythm.
One of his best songs that was overlooked.

One of the signs of Bob's genius.

Shooting Star & Ring Them Bells

Bob's music is like a purge for me. It's spiritual it's like going to church. I'm always a little better after a few songs. Amen.

Listening to some of the freebees on bobdylan.com. Gems there. Especially liked "Dink's Song" from 1961. Shows a bit of Bob's native talent. At 20 he was an awesome young blues singer. Also a nice performance of Tryin' to Get to Heaven. A few interesting covers, as well.

Been listening to Desire lately...I seem to listen to an album over and over and then I move on to another...I kinda slowly absorb Bobs music...I have always felt "Hurricane" to be a great song but I find myself listening to "One more cup of Coffee" over and over....something about the song...maybe it is the drama of moving on coupled with the sobering effects of a cup of coffee...............

glad you like it krag, its one of my favourite Dylan songs, and quite underrated i feel. The song really has some mysterious element that i can't quite put my finger on, its great.

Isn't it interesting. All kindsa people expressing a great like for one song or one album or another.

I have a theory about that --- A lot of times, one's favorite Dylan song is whichever one you have most recently listened to. I works for me quite often.

Because of this forum and the references to 'Oh Mercy' which I
had not listened to,I've got a treasure of new songs but Man in
the Long Black Coat has got me under it's spell for now.
Then the all time great 'Things Have Changed' will always be there.

I haven't listened to "Oh Mercy" in a long time but I have got it playing right now. "Oh Mercy" was actually one of the first Dylan albums I ever purchased. The two songs; Man in the Long Black Coat and Most of the Time had me under a spell for a long time.

in my car -- for the past several weeks I've been listening to March 7, 2001 Osaka, Japan:

3 Desolation Row (acoustic)
4 Maggie's Farm
5 If Not For You
6 'Til I Fell In Love With You
7 Love Minus Zero/No Limit (acoustic) (Larry on steel guitar)
8 Gates Of Eden (acoustic) (Larry on bouzouki and Tony on electric bass)
9 Tangled Up In Blue (acoustic) (Bob on harp)

Its an excellent run of songs w/fantastic performances.
If Not For You and Tangled Up in Blue are longtime favorite of mine w/ Love Minus Zero and Gates of Eden being more recent favorites. At this point in my listening tho I am partial to Desolation Row, Maggies Farm, and Til I Fell in Love With You.

at home I've been listening to (Computer Playlist):

Tangled Up in Blue 11-14-04
Down Along the Cove Boulder 10-24-04
Million Miles 03 11 04
Its All Over Now, Baby Blue 10 31 04
GodKnows 10 24 04
Vision of Johanna 11 13 04
Tamborine Man 4 11 04
Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World by Israel Kamamkawiwo'ole (recommended to me by Sarah)

I think this is a great version of Tangled Up in Blue -- I heard others from this tour which I didnt care for that much, but this one is definitely above average to my ears. I'd like to find a good version of Tough Mama to put in there; however I dont think he sang it in the fall and I going for a Fall 04 compliation.

Israel's song is an add-on. Rather interesting intro on this : "This one's for Gabby."
