Vengeful? In what way? He sounds desperate to me, if anything.

I stood there and hummed,
I tapped on her drum
I asked her how come.
And she buttoned her boot,
And straightened her suit,
Then she said, "Don't get cute."

Always viewed the Norweigan Wood - Fourth Time Around
connection is healthy banter between two songwriter friends
of which we, fortunately, reap the benefits.
Still pondering the significance of “Fourth.”

“Shine your light, movin' on
You burned so bright
Roll on, John”

Even so, I like both songs equally well -- one of Lennon's stronger efforts vs. a song that's not even in Dylan's top 100.

Rolling stone ranked it at 54.

Oh, my bad. I was just going by what ER members seem to think. I forgot that RS was the authority.

Anyway it ranked #99 on the Expecting Rain "songs from studio albums" list - https://expectingrain.com/discussions/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=95432&start=250

And for me, that's just about right (except, I would move Scarlet Town, Restless Farewell, Highlands, Brownsville Girl, and probably ten or so more ahead of it).

But if RS has it at 54, then I must be mistaken.

Yeah, Rolling Stone's list is pretty bad. 4th Time Around is a minor gem. 99 seems more like it, although Brownsville Girl is definitely more important. On the other hand, we were just ranking performances. RS was ranking the best songs. They'll have to answer for putting Spanish Harlem Incident ahead of Changing of the Guard and Brownsville Girl
