Seems like the local Papparazi (spelling?) has picked up
lots of clips & shots of our man arriving & departing venues.

I’m not encouraging it, but am oddly intrigued when it happens.
What a life it must be to duck & jive so much in plain sight.

The last 2 nights in Prague (today) are the most recent.

Poor guy can’t go anywhere without folks wanting to stare or
say something. Once on a while he even hangs out or responds.
There was that time the family hung with him just after Tempest,
the bicycling in Brazil, signing harmonicas & also scribbling autographs
at his bus in Maine (early 2000’s?).

So many stories of him coming & going to venues.
This is a place to collect those posts.
Do other threads exist on this subject?
Link those in too.

Perhaps my favorite clip in this category is of him bicycling away
from the Mainz soundcheck a few years ago 2014(?).
I’m convinced its him.

If you know a clip or pic, go ahead and share it, or the link,
along with the venue location and date, if possible. Additional
info & surrounding stories are most welcome.

I’ll start.
Here are the latest ones from the current Prague thread:

Night 2 arrival (yesterday):

Might round up some more that folks were reminded of.

I don't have the story offhand, but there was a good one from when I saw him at the Brady Theater in Tulsa a few years back. There was a kid waiting by his tour bus with an acoustic guitar, just playing his songs. Bob came up and asked the kid to play something. He clumsily started to fumble through a Bob song before he was stopped and told to play something he wrote. He did, and Bob gave him one of his harmonicas.

I thought "surely this has to be fake." Then the kid busted out pictures of it happening.

Mind blowing that the recluse sometimes shows his face.

Found the Mainz one.
First few moments...watch the bicycle exit the venue.

Bye Bob! See you at the show!

There are other Mainz clips. Watch them in order and see.
No Bob on stage for Blind Willie soundcheck.

^ It's a bit stalkerish this thread. Dylan did a wee bit about stalkers in his Theme Time Happiness episode. Or was it the Madness episode? Anyhow Dylan tells us that Stalkers are above averge intelligence. Didn't know that. Thanks Bob!

Fascinating were the Sad Songs and Waltzes in Mainz, Mr Barefoot.

I could spot someone riding away; young and dynamic. Perhaps the guy doing the beer run. Guess I am from Missouri.

I'm not sure I understand what people are going for here. What exactly is the value in watching Bob, the members of his band, the crew or anyone else enter or exit a venue? And I do mean it as a real question: I'm seriously curious about what motivates adults (I'm excluding people under the age of say, 20 here) to do something like that.

Reality can easily be dismissed as silly.
But, the fact is, it’s happening.

It’s a cultural piece, and an odd one at that.
One that Bob has to endured for a long time now.

Adapting and making this aspect of touring work for him, somehow, speaks quite highly for him. True Grit. I believe it shows his dedication to live performance. There’s money involved, of course, though it doesn’t feel like that’s his primary driver.

These clips show how ridiculous it is for Bob, still after all these years, to simply & peacefully enter and leave a venue, unhassled. They serve as documentation of that ridiculousness.

It’s actually a fascinating phenomenon, fame...and how it’s approached...by both fans & him. He’s just a person. We all appreciate personal respect. Some cross the line.

I admire his resilience.
Who would want to put up with the bullsh*t of being approached every time they go in public? ...Would you?
And if so, would you keep on keepin’ on?

I would not wait for Dylan at any door. If I would see him anywhere, I would not try to get close. I probably would not talk to him sitting on the same park bench.
But: When I went to Prague train station to leave town, I accidentally passed the back door of Palác Lucerna. I saw the environment, that is seen on the videos with Dylan. The shops, the window with handbags, that he passed. At that moment, I had a strange, deep feeling. Perhaps like an experience of the source or spirit that created all the records and the great concert the day before – an imaginary person. This feeling is not possible during a show because the performance is a result. And not, if I would see the real person on the street. The real person interests me only on stage.

Sandy, you have deep philosophical questions. What motivates people to watch TV news - to watch polititians go from cars to some building where they will have a meeting? What is the value in watching Bob live (travelling to a concert to another country) when you can listen to a CD in your kitchen and wash dishes at the same time? Wouldn´t that be more rational? What is the value in listening to music at all? What makes fans who stood back to go to the front in the end? What makes people to clap hands - it´s a silly behaviour in fact, just a conservative tradition...

I watched the videos. I found them interesting. A documentary of a performer´s life. I didn´t observe anybody hassle Bob Dylan in these vids. Naturally, if an older man goes somewhere in the evening encircled by a group of younger strong men in the way it´s recorded people stop wanting to see whether he isn´t in troubles. Eventually to help him escape from the gang. It is the security that draws attention - and I think it is a part of the game to make some people famous. I don´t think it´s less value in watching this clip than in watching another clips on youtube: Edison drinking tea with family,Obama going pumpkin shopping, Henri Matisse go outside and pick a flower etc. If you cannot imagine that people would want to see Bob Dylan drinking tea, shop pumpkin or go in a garden, you can still think that this documentary can have some value for local security guys watching the professionals at work...?

Sick and obsessive and obviously I watch them. Like Matisse picking flowers? Yeah, pretty much. I mean, I'm no crazier than your average bear. I just hate to think clips like these, and threads like this one, would discourage our man from touring or otherwise being out and about. I suppose he's used to it.

I once saw some great footage circa 1992 of Dylan riding by on a bicycle, somewhere in Europe. I'm not going to apologize for loving it, but I can understand why it might freak him out. It would sure freak me out.

Based on his simple lines about standing in line for Gregory Peck, I think we understand each other perfectly. Him being the Peck in this equation, of course.
