It's tempting to believe that current set lists reflect Bob's state of mind and/or indicate direction his life is taking.
At the risk of sounding critical, whereas some songs are rather sweet well intended love songs "All or Nothing at All" for instance, for me depicts an ultimatum, which, as far as I can remember, I've not employed myself, but have seen work for others in relationships (i.e. "stop your messing around or I'll leave you.") To me it's sort of like saying, "well if I can't have
all of Bob Dylan's albums, I don't to want any! Seems to me, life is often far from ideal and people often prefer to have somebody in their lives, in some capacity, instead of foregoing their company entirely. A matter of personalities I suppose.
Along the same lines "Why Try to Change Me Now" reminds me somewhat of the lyrics of another cover "Take Me As I Am, (Or Let me Go)" from "Self Portrait." Again, it would be lovely if, like a mother's feelings, love for another would be unconditional, (as they sometimes are initially), but eventually we have expectations and often do want some accommodation and it seems from these lyrics that to make any kind of change to please another is too much to ask. Of course, again, the ideal would to be totally accepted AND loved, no matter what.
Just sayin'...
