Heat Index: Don’t say ‘there’s nothing to do in Midland’

A couple of legends will play the same night
by Rich Lopez, MRT.com/Midland Reporter-Telegram Published October 4, 2018

Normally this is the spot where I’d post the Heat Index with some select hot-ticket goings-on over the weekend, but the next few days are an embarrassment of riches. We always hear “There’s nothing to do in Midland.” There’s even a Facebook group named “There’s Nothing to Do in West Texas.” Let’s just admit to ourselves that the notion is an expired one, and while Weekender proves that every Thursday, this week is of particular note.

The first problem is sorting through it all. Music, theater and art are in abundance this weekend and then some -- and that’s hardly a bad problem to have. …For starters, music is always a big draw, and all kinds will be played throughout the weekend…

The music continues after the weekend ends. A couple of legends will play the same night. Bob Dylan and His Band perform at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Wagner Noel Performing Arts Center, while Emmylou Harris performs 7:30 p.m. at the Chaparral Center at Midland College.

Remember, that’s just the music. Art lovers have it just as good.

Bob Dylan & his Band at
Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center
The Shining Star of West Texas

2016 Nobel Prize in Literature winner, twelve-time Grammy Award-winning, with one Academy Award and one Golden Globe Award the Bob Dylan and His Band will perform on the Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center stage on October 9, 2018!

In a career spanning six decades, Bob Dylan’s impact on popular music and culture is immeasurable. He is responsible for some of the most influential albums of all time, including The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan, Highway 61 Revisited and Blonde on Blonde, and his socially and politically charged singles, ‘Blowin’ In The Wind’ and ‘The Times They Are A-Changin’’, are widely considered among the most important songs in modern music. The ‘voice of a generation’ boasts an unparalleled repertoire, including timeless classics, ‘Like A Rolling Stone’, ‘Tangled Up In Blue’, ‘Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door’ and ‘Girl From The North Country’.

To experience Bob Dylan live in concert is an opportunity to share an encounter with one of the last remaining musical legends of the modern era. Don’t miss out on what promises be a performance for the ages.

Show should be starting very soon. Looks like a slow night around here. Better crack open this bottle of white!

Well, pretty sure Midland hasn’t ranked as one of our more enticing towns.
Just sayin’.
Luckily, plenty of brew on this end.

I hope "Spirit On The Water" is getting a singalong from the crowd.

I say we let that one stay back in Spain where it's rested since March!

Good angle on that photo.

And that’s actually pretty funny, Matt.

I'm guessing the same set, otherwise we probably would have heard something by now?

Seems that no Stu anymore.

If Donnie were really missing we could have Bob solo in a couple of weeks.

Probably Stu was the one who took care of the setlists?
