phasme/Odradek, I visited your site. Trés bien. Mais, I have a question. The photo thread is titled "Kinky Bob." I was wondering WHY it is named that. What does the word "kinky" mean en Francais? In English, it is a word of a sexual nature, as in someone who has odd or strange sexual tastes. So I was thinking it must mean something else in French. My French is abysmal and very rusty; never learned any slang.

Hmmm, i don't know what to answer : the picture come from another site (yes, we stole it). Kinky, like the Kinks - it's about the hair, no ?

Kinky like a sheep, for instance?

Are you in love with a sheep ?

http://www.wordreference.com/enfr/kink

And the picture is a visual wordplay untranslatable in english language :

The Last Supper = la Cène

and

The Stage = la Scène

And in french, 'la scène' and 'la cène' have the same pronunciation.

Dylanesque n'est-ce pas ? :D

I wrote that.
Strange kind of french humour...

Post scriptum : In French, "kinky" = olé olé, mais aussi frisé (with tight curls).
Choisis ton camp, camarade !

in English, when words are spelled the same and sound the same but mean different things, they are called homonyms. Kinky is one of those words. The Kinks took the name not because of their hair, but because they had a kinky style of dressing. Kinky as in odd or strange. In current usage, Kinky as a sexual term is the most common so if someone sees a thread entitled Kinky Bob, they'll think it's probably going to be a very naughty thread.

Thanks, Carolina !

We try to try to formulate our passion for 'our hero forever' with our ancient language.

And yes, the connexion 'Rimbaud/Dylan' seems to work, for instance - in poetry area.

But there is too much to say about this Voice, the music etc...

That being said, you are welcome in this forum.
