What the tune that opens the show about the Bible?

Thanks,
Vinnie

Sounds like a Miles Davis/Gil Evans piece, but not sure what.

"It Ain't Necessarily So" by Miles. Given the theme, it sounds like someone on the team was making an ironic statement.

A pleasure. Fwiw, one of the TTRH producers told me a year or so back that starting around mid-way Season II, they invested a lot of time and effort picking the bed/background music used in each show matching it - sometimes in a very obscure fashion - to the the theme of that show. The producer encouraged me to see if I could decipher the various clues they had supplied in the bed music, a challenge I declined. :?

Did they promise anything for that, or that challenge was just for fun?

 If you knew anything of my often uncomfortable relationship with the TTRH crew, you wouldn't need to ask.

My personal opinion was that it was more an attempt to distract me than anything else. Ref....

Well, I'm getting the idea step by step, day by day... But you're probably right, looks like a method of distraction.

That's class! How'd you get onto them? Because you're moderator on this site is it?
What's the quote from - another version of the same song?
I really like the Miles Davis one. There's probably a few others like that too that'll i'll have to get back to you about.

I ran a fan site and podcast for a few years that was focused on TTRH. Over the course of time and my research, I met/corresponded with several people associated with the show, both on the XM Radio side and on the TTRH side. For a short period of time Grey Water Park was considering doing a book on TTRH and we had a few discussions on my doing some work for them. That didn't work out and they put their book on the back burner where it remains to this day with many other Dylan projects. I tried independently to publish my own book on the show and that really didn't work out  for reasons I don't want to get into. I'm still hopeful that someday I'll be able to do that book. Hope, as the poet says, springs eternal.

The song is from the Gershwin musical, "Porgy and Bess," and that's a stanza from the lyrics. The first stanza reads...

Quote:
It ain't necessarily so
It ain't necessarily so
De things dat yo' liable to read in de Bible
It ain't necessarily so

... and the singer, the aptly named "Sportin' Life," goes on to list various Biblical stories such as David and Goliath that he feels were fictionalized. As I said, given the theme and subject matter of the TTRH Bible show, it appears that someone was making an ironic statement to open with that piece of music. Or maybe they just liked Miles Davis.
