how do you send private messages?
i have written it but it will not go anywhere.
it just stays in the outbox.
either that or it has been delivered at the other end 15 times and the other person thinks i am crazy.

Until they read/open it I think it stays in the OUTBOX.

Hi, isis.

If you wrote one during the changeover, it may have gotten stuck, as I had that problem too. Maybe you could open it, cut and paste to a new pm, send that one.

best of luck.

SENT MESSAGES will appear in either the OUTBOX or the SENT MESSAGES folder. As long as the recipient(s) have not yet read the message, it will stay in the OUTBOX. As soon as someone reads the message it will be archived to the SENT MESSAGES folder. If the administrator allows it, you can edit messages after sending them as long as they are in the OUTBOX and the recipients have not yet read them.

Mods or admins have no access to PMs.

This may be a very naive question, but what does the PM filter do? I had a message this morning to say that a PM in my inbox had been removed by the filter before I could read it. Ought I to be grateful for this?

I get an annoying number of those myself. I believe it means that someone has changed their mind about sending and has deleted the message.

OK thanks, Matchstriker. I'll assume that nothing sinister was going on. If it happens repeatedly is there any way of finding out what the problem is? Forgive me, I have no technical knowledge whatsoever and assumed that a 'PM filter' was some way of automatically detecting offensive material.

I don't think that's what it means but I'll double-check.

ETA: From Info & Assist/User Guide: 5.5.4. Message filters
"TODO: How to work with message filters. That is quite a complex system".

:? Never mind then, we won't worry our pretty little heads about it. Anyway I now have a message in my Inbox explaining that the message was indeed deleted by the sender.
