I've always wondered what he says there.

Regardless, an amazing version. The piano really adds to it.

Understanding and translating the lyrics are hard in the later years. I was trying to translate for my aunt this year in pittsburgh. No matter how well I knew the songs, there were always points when I was just like "I don't really know...sorry.."

That is got to be what he says gives the song a whole new meaning

Yeah, I always take it to be him saying "you're a big girl, holy shit." Seems like kind of a fun re-write.

He messed up the previous two lines and made up some nonsense lyrics on the spot. I think 'holy shit' is a comment on this! Very funny.

Nah, he messes up his lyrics all the time. Probably just saying "holy shit" to amuse himself. I wish he would do that sort of thing more often.

The line before it is "but I ain't gonna look there". And what seems like "shit" sounds more like "share" or "chair'. I don't hear the T at the end.

Holy sounds like it has a D in the middle, like Holdy or Holding. So it could be Holly shit, but it could also be be:

Holding share (she's holding on to her share have whatever is left)
Hold a chair (keep a chair free for Bob)
Holdin Share (a persons name)

yeah, no. shit sounds to much like "are", "ear" in the end. but, funny nonetheless.

Holy Cher? Yeah... I hear it.

It's definitely a "short I" sound as in itch and shit. It's common for an ending T sound to be not very audible, especially so in a concert audience recording of someone who likes to mumble. I listened to it over and over and I hear no D sound in the holy part.

The options for what he's saying are:

holy shi
holy shit

Holy Shit seems the most likely of those

The "I'm not gonna look there" seems like an impromptu rhyme with the preceding garbled line that sounds like "I know that I could find you in somebody care", meaning the original rhyme scheme has been altered, so holy shit is not rhyming with the previous line.

It might be some random Klingon.

I just heard this myself and it sounds like holy shit, but I don't know how any of the options listed make sense.

He changed up the lyrics at an earlier show something about "putting an order with the cook." I imagine he misses lines here and there and is forced to recuperate with new lines that fit.

He did that when i saw him in Bethlehem last year with Tangled Up In Blue, in fact he brought back a line that he hadn't used since the 80's and combined the Montage Street line and the topless place line by accident.

No--he used the "I ain't gonna look there" throughout at least '02. HE probably just forgot the last line. But it's not "Holy shit".

Have you ever listened closely to just before he sings "Something" as a tribute to George Harrison, I'm nearly positive I can hear him say:

"f**k that get, get it out of here"
pause
"thanks George"
then starts singing?

Also, I've been playing the Cork from 2006 bootleg quite a bit lately (going to see him there again tomorrow night), I'm almose certain at around the 4minute mark of Just Like A Woman, I can here him say:

"It was raining from the first"
"And I was dying there of thirst"
"So I came in here"
Then kind of off mike, you can here him joke to the band:
"Where ever that is"

That would be funny.

Just came across this version again. It sounded like he said "Holy shit," but I'm just as unsure as I was the first time around.

I think he just muffed the lyrics and it's nonsense words. Would be cool, though, if it was someone's name. So that he was singing Big Girl to someone in specific at Red Bluff.
