Thanks for everything, bw.

I recall that "Nothing" was a theme listed for Season 2 yet it has yet to air? Hmmm... Where's that press release again?

Great post of a great show yet again.

However I am intrigued that the notepad attachment of the show tracklist includes several extra tracks as below:

Bonus Tracks:

Bob Dylan - Cold Irons Bound
Hank Williams - Cold Cold Heart
The White Stripes - In The Cold, Cold Night
Albert King - Cold Feet
Tommy Johnson - Cool Drink Of Water Blues

but these are NOT included in the download file/link!!!!!!

I had to go dig it up, and here's the relevant paragraph from the press release...

Quote:
The first episode of season two will be devoted to the theme "Hello," with a song list that spans "Hello, Mello Baby" by The Mardi Gras Loungers, "Hello Trouble" by Buck Owens and "Hello in There" by John Prine, among many others. Fans can expect to hear future episodes this season dedicated to themes such as "Young & Old," "California," "Dreams," "Fruit," "Something," "Nothing," "Streets," "Parties," "Mail," and the 2nd Annual Countdown Show.

(emphasis mine) So, now we have the "lost Season 2 Theme Time Radio Hour episodes"

Looks like a nice multi-year contract Jeff Rosen must have negotiated for Mr. D. - 6 months on and 6 months off? I betcha Season 3 starts right around mid-September again, just in time for the book pre-publicity.

Thanks again Willie. Glad to hear Bob say at the end of 'Cold' that it's only a short break till season three. I don't mind a long break as long as we DO get season three, (and four, five, six etc!)

Yeah I thought so.

Sounds to me like the XM-Sirus merger pre-empted the season and they split Season 2 in half so that "Season 3" can be launched to help boost ratings and interest in the new satellite network hybrid. This is, after all, the #1 show XM has and #2 overall on either station.

That would explain the "tagged on" feeling at the end of the "Cold" show where it just wrapped up... no credits, as if they didn't have time to re-record them or anything.

Anyone know when the new network officially starts broadcasting?

The comments above make sense to me. I'm confident that the shows will continue. Didn't Bob say in the previous one that he's never going to run out of themes? :)

Thanks Blindwilly for helping to make all my car trips so enjoyable! I always have a copy of a Theme Time in there.

Thanks Blindwilly. It will be a long summer without these weekly posts from you. Enjoy your break!

I'm going to (somewhat) disagree with your theory AWA. First, the merger isn't a done deal - the FCC still needs to make a positive ruling before Sirius takes over XM. However, most of the reports I've read indicate that ruling - which is overdue, it was expected in late March - to be positive.

However, when I was doing the research, I ran across an interesting statement by Sirius CEO Mel Karmazin, who was being interviewed on the Howard Stern show. Kamazin said,
Quote:
“Your Sirius satellite radio […] will not become obsolete, and you’ll still be able to get all your Sirius programming. Our hope would be that as we negotiate through existing contracts from the partners that we’ll be able to add content like Baseball to the Sirius system so our subscribers would be able to get some of that desirable content.”
So, I suspect what has happened is that the TTRH team is in the process of renegotiating its contract so that Sirius - as well as XM Radio - can broadcast the show if/when the merger takes place.

Trashcan Lives

the wind blows hard tonight
and it's a cold wind
and I think about
the boys on the row.
I hope some of them have a bottle of
red.
it's when you're on the row
that you notice that
everything
is owned
and that there are locks on
everything.
this is the way a democracy
works:
you get what you can,
try to keep that
and add to it
if possible.
this is the way a dictatorship
works too
only they either enslave or
destroy their
derelicts.
we just forgot ours.
in either case
it's a hard
cold
wind.

thanks Carolina. Also, if you haven't seen it, I recommend a movie Fishing With John. Not really a movie, but a series of episodes. You've probably already seen it, but just in case......
