Living legend Bob Dylan coming to Grand Rapids and Detroit
MLive

There's no telling how many more tours Bob Dylan will go on, but he plans to come to both Detroit and Grand Rapids before 2017 is over.

The living legend will be at Van Andel Arena on Saturday, October 28 and at the Fox Theatre on Wednesday, November 1. Mavis Staples will open both concerts.

The 76 year old's career spans more than 50 years. He has sold more than 100 million albums, making him one of the top-selling artists in music history. He released his 38th studio album, "Triplicate," in 2017.

Love Sick! I would have loved to have heard that at the shows I attended. With the small variations at this point, my preferred set would have Love Sick and That Lucky Old Sun in place of both LAWY and BOATM....grave

LAWY closing was an inspired idea, I couldn't believe my eyes when I read that first setlist 4 years ago, but it has been 4 years now! Love Sick must really bring things to a shuddering, powerful conclusion, I wonder if it will stay on.

Love Sick should be played earlier in the set and feature more regularly! For me it was one of the highlights of the European tour earlier this year.

It's not exactly like Love Sick is anything to get excited about.

I think so too, Schoolie. And with the added benefit of wiping out Leaves.

This might be Bob's most varied tour of the static NET set yet.

IMO dropping LAWY is a shame...

Love Sick
Long and Wasted Years
Autumn Leaves

would be a great three song run to finish the set before the encore.

I'd like to put this on the setlist page, but I'd also like to put this down in writing before I figure that out.

I'm 40. I first saw Bob at a friend's urging in 99 with Paul Simon at Pine Knob. Next show I saw was in Regensburg Germany the next year and it's been at least 6 or 7 more shows along the way in Michigan, usually, including Jack White joining Bob's encore in Detroit along the way.

I'm a big fan of the classics. However, Time Out of Mind, Love and Theft and especially Modern Times (with Petty's Highway Companion) have seen me through some life here and there and back again. Rough times without his music and words as a companion.

Last night was, I think, show number 10. I brought my soon to be 10 year old daughter. She loves Must Be Santa. She also has a fondness for Tangled Up in Blue. She took a nap late in the set. I kept saying, let's go after TUIB. "No, dad. I want to stay for the whole show." Zzzzz...

I pointed out Bob's Oscar. She loved the back drops. She fell asleep. Bob played Soon After Midnight and I had my precious kid sound asleep on my shoulder. We were fourth row.

Bob is on point. It's so special to see him up close. He is in form, just like the reviews say. Run, don't walk, to see Bob. The band is very tight, Charlie is key to the crooner songs... tie your shoes up tight for Thunder On The Mountain and let it swing for Summer Days.

Last comment: if you're on this site, you are a Dylan head. Go see him! He's in form. He'll be honest with you.

Perhaps...

Excellent to hear from you Hot Blare. You certainly keep your powder dry.
3rd post in 9 years.

So glad you let us know how it went. Tell your daughter that happens to me during Soon After Midnight too. It’s a good show mostly, for sure. I’m liking Honest & Thunder based on tapes. You were lucky to get a Theater Show...or was Grand Rapids an arena? Oops, either way. I’m stuck with arenas on the ones I might make. Can’t figure how to get a theater or two to work out this time through.
You’re a great parent to bring the kid. Love it.
Hope to hear from you again in 2020!

it definitely is. It's unreal. Like most of you here, I think about him every single day. To see him in person, in the flesh, is so strange. This person exists and he is a real flesh and blood human being. Anyway, glad you had a great show, he is in splendid form these days.
