I always thought it was "struck down by the strength of the wheel" which reminded me of Hermann Hess, though I no longer remember quite why.

It has quite a few great lines that pop into my head all the time, no idea what it's about.

That's another one that's always weirded me out. Another almost great song thrown off by bizarre lyrics. But in both cases, had the song been chosen for inclusion on the album those lyrics might have been changed, as was the case with, for example, Jokerman and Sweetheart Like You.


Human (animalistic) nature. Dylan's best when in the thick of it, 65/66, 74/75 and 81-83.
