So we have a name and a cover. Further info will start tumbling down just about now :)

Sweet! Thank you, lord!

I share some of the sentiments here about meh art work and was also hoping for more studio stuff, but still really looking forward for this.
I see that there are 2 full concerts at the end. One says only Toronto, I guess that will be 20th april 1980, which I have on mp3, and look forward to hearing hopefully with better sound. Great concert. What about London? you guys know which one that could be?
I don´t think I´ve ever heard any 1979 live stuff and I know it gets a lot of praise here, so look forward to discovering some of those gems.

One thing also to clarify is if the Deluxe version is limited, to know if we should pull the trigger ASAP or not. Or perhaps like someone suggested there will be a super deluxe monster version which will be the limited version... :!:

I think London will be Earls Court 1981, there were a number of nights. I hope some of the Warfield stuff will be included too but am not too sure of whether these were recorded properly.
Yea the artwork is none too inspiring but expectations for that have been tempered in recent years :)

I think November 3 is sweet! Only 6 weeks to go..plus 9 disks is better than 8.

So basically I'm forced to spend money I do not have on the deluxe edition because I also want some studio material instead of a "mere" live album?!

Of course you are. You're new here, so I don't know if you're aware of the situation when Tell Tale Signs first came out... but yes, $ony's not gonna give it to you for free, that's the whole point of it.

Why aren't songs like 'Trouble in Mind' included?

The mystery remains about a Toronto DVD or not.

There's an amazon page that says 9 discs ( https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075R1VTW9/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8 ), another one says 8 ( https://www.amazon.co.uk/Trouble-No-Mor ... 1_2&sr=8-2 ).

These are just the live tracks. Trouble in mind was never done in concert

The Amazon UK link is for the dvd-less mp3 version, the US link is to the physical release.

The cover artwork is appalling, unlikely to appeal to anyone not already psyched for this (which, as said before, is already a niche within a niche).
As someone who is not a great fan of this period I also wish some studio material would have been included on the smaller set. I can't, in my current financial position, justify buying the nine disc set but I'm far more interested in studio outtakes than live tracks.

For those more versed in this stuff, is there any great surprises in the tracklisting? Any new songs whose existence we were unaware of?

In the best "bootleg tradition" the concerts are "lacking all the girls' songs"... :D

I reserve the right to change my mind, but think I may have reached the point where I don't buy a Dylan release. Version after version of songs I hated in the first place.

+1

I am disappointed. There is a bunch of studio things in the vaults from this era. A bunch of cd's and a few real suprises.

A few thoughts:

- Live 2CD set includes 2 versions apiece of Gotta Serve Someboday, Slow Train and Solid Rock - that's disappointing given the wealth of material that could have been substituted (I Will Love Him, Let's Keep it Between Us etc)
- The studio selection is pretty paltry but it must be assumed they'll be illuminating, and of course in excellent quality
- The Oslo clip on YouTube kicks the bootleg into the tall grass - excellent sound
- Nice to see two (nearly) complete shows, but repeating the Toronto show that already circulates is a touch ungenerous to fans who will have been waiting for Buffalo for so long
- There are still some key tracks missing, such as the aforementioned Let's Keep It Between Us and the re-write of Ain't Gonna Go To Hell For Anybody, but we must assume therefore the fall 1980 shows are in less-than-optimal sound quality

It is a set less likely to appeal to the wider public than any previous Bootleg Series, so while I admire the chutzpah of producing such a niche set in the first place, it is a touch disheartening that Sony didn't address the issues above and make it a set for people that they assume already have some boots and a working knowledge of the era.

I think this is what Jeff Rosen/$ony think the market can take as far as Gospel-Bob goes. No "girls' songs" and no rants & speeches from Dylan.

If anyone is sitting on some more rare stuff from this era the time to leak is NOW!

It's not yet time to copyright extend them, so no need to put everything out yet. They can milk it more later.
