I just heard the version of Gonna Change My Way Of Thinking with Mavis Staples for the first time today, as it was on the homepage. Does anyone else think that this version was inspired by Jimmie Rodgers Visits the Carter Family? Both of them start by one of them singing (Bob and the Carter Family) and then the guest come in (Mavis and Jimmie Rodgers) and then they continue into the song.

Jimmie Rogers Visits The Carter Family- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaXL_vnjmlo

edit- if for some reason I shouldn't have linked Gonna Change My Way Of Thinking, can the mods delete the link?

I think it was. It's in one of the books, maybe Ballad of Bob Dylan?

Scobie does a cool analysis of it--and how it subverts the original--in Alias Bob Dylan, if I remember rightly.

It takes awkward to a whole new level. File this one with the Curtis Blow wrap song.

How so? Personally, I find the spoken word bit more silly than awkward, but the arrangement itself is great, imho, Made for the best opening song I've ever heard Dylan do at the 2011 shows.

Oh! This explains Bobs phrasing in the dialoge with Mavis. This made the song even better.

Dylan presented "The Carter Family And Jimmie Rodgers In Texas - Jimmie Rodgers & The Carter Family - (1931)" in March 2007 on the 44th Theme Time Radio Hour about 'Texas'.

I had commented on my dedicated page http://www.notdarkyet.org/tt-texas.html back then:

"The spoken dialogue during "The Carter Family And Jimmie Rodgers In Texas",
recorded on 12 June 1931 in Louisville, Kentucky, served as a blueprint for
Bob Dylan's rewritten version of "GONNA CHANGE MY WAY OF THINKING",
recorded in 4 March 2002 for the covers compilation "Gotta Serve Somebody -
The Gospel Songs Of Bob Dylan", which was finally released in spring 2003.

The spoken dialogue between Bob Dylan and Mavis Staples is very similar to
its Rodgers/Carter predecessor, with California and Hawaii replacing Texas
and Mexico and with much the same 'fried chicken' sequence."

A complete performance history of Dylan's 2002 version of GONNA CHANGE MY WAY OF THINKING, including twenty-five mp3 links to performances from 2009 to 2011 can be found on ...http://www.notdarkyet.org/change.html

Okay, silly works. Another one to file it with - Buckets of rain with Bette Midler. Are there any more songs like that?
