Black IPAs, also known as Cascadian Dark Ales, have made some serious inroads into the craft beer world over the past few years. Here's a link featuring several good ones, a few of which I've tried (Hop in the Dark, Wookey Jack & Night Time are all excellent).

No Time To Drink is what's happenin' in Kingston.
Gotta spend all the good drinkin time lookin for a parking space.

Loneliness, Parking Space, high society, notoriety

You fight for the spot and you travel alone

Be careful, you'll miss it, don't blink

And there’s no time to drink

COUP DE CANON

INGREDIENTS
Roasted malted barley, coffee, Northern hops
CLASSIFICATION
Dark Coffee Beer

FERMENTATION
Top fermented, unfiltered

DEGREE
5 % alc./vol.

VOLUME
500 ml

The cannon is heard. An amazing, booming voice. It fires up the senses in a surprising way. This vibrant coffee-flavoured beer never misses its mark. Pairs well with appetizers and desserts alike.

---
I'd try it, although I'm a sucker for brew right outta the tap, if possible.
Bottles work in a pinch. Never cans.

Have fun, Kaleidescope, & let us know how it was. The beer AND the show!

I know folks don't really drink before shows anymore, but for any straggling beer lovers, it seems this place might work:
http://www.keeganales.com

I'd try all 3 in the Mothers's Milk series, is my guess, before deciding on a 4th.

I forgot to tell you, that beer was delicious ! It tasted exactly like black iced coffee, the beer taste was very subtle. You must love coffee though. (it is not sweet, so for black coffee lovers like myself) Very refreshing, perfect for summer !!

I've come around on cans, and this is one beer (and brewery) that helped convince me.

"5.8% ALC. BY VOL.
40 IBU
1.022 FINAL GRAVITY
CO2 EXTRACT HOP VARIETALS
TWO ROW • KILN COFFEE MALT • OATS • PALE CHOCOLATE MALT • BLACK MALT • ROASTED BARLEY • BISCUIT • CRYSTAL 60 MALT VARIETALS
75% ETHIOPIAN • 25% SUMATRAN COFFEE VARIETALS
Black House is an oatmeal coffee stout bursting with coffee aroma and flavor. Modern Times is one of the only breweries in the world to roast our own coffee, which allows us to be exceptionally picky about which coffees we use and how we roast them. The result is an abundantly flavorful beer that's incredibly complex and aromatic, with loads of roast character and a chocolate-covered espresso bean finish."

I've enjoyed several coffee beers but not that one. It's the best of two worlds! I hope you enjoy it. Much better than the water joe experiment two decades ago

That modern times looks very tasty!

I said never. But that's too extreme. I recant.
I would try Modern Times in a can if I had too, especially if Nitro-infused...

...and glad to hear COUP DE CANON worked well for Kaleidoscope.
We'll hafta have one or three before a show sometime.

from Toronto Live thread:

Another observation about America: It's an unwritten rule in most American airports to NOT serve decent beer. WTF???

I get all bitchy & mony when I can't get a decent brew on tap!
Even downright snobbish.

If you need to decompress after a shittybeer flight, set your destination to Provincetown and pick up a sixer of this. Across from the stop and shop. Watch out for pedestrians if driving, and watch out for pedestrian beers if sipping.
