I would say after 2005 it became a downward spiral, although Glasgow 07 and Glasgow 09 have to rank as the worst shows I have attended.

Glasgow 89, Glasgow 95, Edinburgh 95, Glasgow 00, Aberdeen 00 and Barrowlands 04 are the greatest of the shows I have had the good fortune to have witnessed, the rest have ranked from good to average to awful.

That sure is an impressive listing, did you realise you finished where you started? On the 'Who's Going Where' topic I thought you had more shows booked, I just checked and noticed you were down to be at the third Amsterdam show, the first Paris show (with a ? on the second), Esch sur Alzette and Frankfurt. Maybe another 4 or 5 could have been added to your total? Did you just get to Hannover and think I've done enough or what? Guess you didn't do the Rodin exhibition in Paris, that was excellent - well worth seeing.

hey---i just posted mine. i was looking through all these awesome concerts to see if there were any early ones, including possible paths crossing. Ours didn't meet, but between the two of us we have the first three electric performances covered, you were at Newport and Forest Hills, i was at Hollywood Bowl. a lifelong lasting rush. I have downloaded recording of the Forest Hills concert, it doesn't have Positively 4th Street on it. The set lists at Forest Hills and Hollywood Bowl were the same, it was the first full electric set concerts. For Forest Hills, the Highway 61 Revisited album hadn't been released yet. It was the first time anyone heard Desolation Row and Ballad of a Thin Man. The album was released a few days after that concert (i only know this because i looked it up on wikipedia) and then the Hollywood Bowl concert was right after the album was released, nobody had heard the songs yet. Hollywood Bowl was one week after Forest Hills. Those were the concerts with Al Kooper on organ, Harvey Brooks on bass, plus Robbie Robertson and Levon Helm. After Hollywood Bowl, Kooper and Brooks were replaced with the other members of what would later be called The Band. i only know this stuff from reading about it on the web. i didn't know these details at the time, i was 16. Desolation Row was mindblowing.

Maybe our paths crossed if you were at the LA (Inglewood) Forum in 1974--those were the last three (i think) performances of Dylan and the Band on tour ever, they were on Feb 13 and 14. On 2/14 there were two shows (i think). it was the first Dylan concert for me since 1965, long wait, and a lot of other people too, and it was amazing exciting. i won't forget when he came on for the acoustic set and the lights were turned down and i remember him (my memory could be wrong) using a chair, but what i really remember was how the whole audience lit matches and lighters, i never saw that before. Now i think it's done normally at some concerts. On that day it was a complete surprise for me, it seemed spontaneous, and it sure did add to the effect of Dylan sitting down there after an awesome electric set, doing the solo acoustic songs. Other than that, it's hazy except i have recordings of that performance. Also, Before the Flood was recorded at two of those performances.

So, you said either 74 or 75, possibly rolling thunder. i don't think Dylan came to LA in '75, so if you saw him at the Forum around then, maybe it was the last tour with the Band that i was at.

I was at this concert, how was your experience at that one? for me it was special, things were especially crazy then, militarists gearing up public to accept a bunch of war, it was depressing, concert was healing, up lifting 2 1/2 hours long, never expected that. super memorable

Of course I realised that. How could one forget a first show?
Yes, I had more shows booked, but I started selling tickets rather soon, as always disheartened by the Dynatra show, which bores me terribly. It seems such a waste of Dylan's remaining years as a live performer. I'll always go see him a bunch of times because I'm so used to it, but...
On top of all that, I wasn't feeling too good anyhow. I missed the Rodin, but saw Banksy and Van Gogh in Amsterdam, so that was nice.

The Rodin exhibition was well worth it, it filled the time between checking in at my hotel and heading off for the Zenith. If I hadn't gone to that I'd have only been spending money in shops and bars so it did me a favour. Shame they didn't do the official guide to the exhibition in other languages than French - quite a nice souvenir but a bit expensive if you can only understand it in part. Anyway, to see The Thinker and some of the other great pieces up close was great. Thanks for the tip!
It was my intention to hit the shops in the Champs Elysee the following morning prior to catching the Eurostar back to England but after the shootings of the night before and the disruption on the Metro I decided against it.

Hi!

Unfortunately I did not assist to Dylan and Patti Smith Live in Bethlehem, PA 1995 (THE PARADISE LOST TOUR) but as I guess most people here are in the same page as I, I published the concert in my YouTube channel.
Here's the address: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nfdbploq0fo
Please don't forget to write a comment.

Thanks!

I was at this concert, how was your experience at that one? for me it was special, things were especially crazy then, militarists gearing up public to accept a bunch of war, it was depressing, concert was healing, up lifting 2 1/2 hours long, never expected that. super memorable

Sorry for late answer. 3 weeks ago since you sent your post. I remember that concert very well. It was at a university area and lots of students attended. It was a real good concert. I remember seeing Joan Baez in the audience. It was soon after 9.11 and Dylan played a very strong version of Masters Of War. (as he did the whole tour I think), but what I remember the best was something that happened when I walked out of the concert hall. A couple of students walking in front of me were discussing the concert and one of them said to the other: "Did you hear that marvelous new song Dylan has written too Osama Bin Laden?" "Yes, I noticed", said the other one.

I am curious to know - I noticed many Bob fans attended A LOT of shows.
How can you do it ? How can you afford so many concerts, plane tickets, gas, hotels... ?
Many of them are in the middle of the week, don't you have to work ? What do you say to your employer ?
Are you all millionaires ?

Good point, I've often thought the same when I see the long lists.
I was stretched financially seeing Bob twice this year with my son, its not a cheap do that's for sure with all the expenses as well.

sorry for the late answer too (lol) . it's been 5 weeks since you posted. i'm not sure i'm getting notifications. sometimes i do. it's been a while though. anyway, i enjoyed your reply. Joan Baez in the audience, wow. i so remember Masters of War at that concert. he also sang it on national TV real strong during while US was bombing Iraq in 1991, with a quarter million troops stationed in good ol' Saudi Arabia, i think it was the Grammys, February 1991. That was the song he chose, was excellent. wow, that was a weird comment by those students. definitely memorable, glad i didn't hear it lol. i had to drive back to LA after and i was feeling so good. first time in over a month. i wonder which song they were thinking of, with their creative juices inspired. maybe it was masters of war.
