Forget about the art, I'm hyptonised and terrifed by the dead shark eyes of that photo of Bob.

Sometimes that shark looks right at ya. Right into your eyes. And the thing about a shark is he’s got lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a doll’s eyes. When he comes at ya, he doesn’t even seem to be livin’… ’til he bites ya, and those black eyes roll over white and then… ah then you hear that terrible high-pitched screamin’. The ocean turns red, and despite all your poundin’ and your hollerin’ those sharks come in and… they rip you to pieces.

The fact that one is negative about an object does not mean that one is not obsessed with it.

^ Well, scottw, that's a lot of movie set in the West (in the original sense). So, KS, MO, TX, and the Mexico border. That broadly the case?

Are there any paintings which have actually been done by looking at stuff in the real world?

Yes, that's a fair assessment. A dozen films identified so far. Here's the running list:
Border Incident
What's Eating Gilbert Grape
Rain Man
Lolita
Touch of Evil
The Crimson Kimono
The Set-Up
Bonnie and Clyde
Winchester '73
Paris, Texas
Lone Star
Paper Moon

Touch of Evil, Lone Star and Border Incident all take place on the border.

I anticipate that there are other drawings and paintings that were sourced from films. Untitled 5 is a drawing of people on a dock wearing clothes that might date to the 1890's. I anticipate that this image is from a film. Other paintings that I suspect were drawn from films are Norfolk, Virginia Pier and H Street, Washington DC.

Is ScottW actually Bob Dylan?

The reason I ask is his discovery of the film clips used for these paintings. How could a person possibly decide what film to look at, then go through the whole film, and find the clip? It doesn't seem humanly possible, unless, of course....

Scott?

The drawing Untitled 8 from The Beaten Path is a detail of the Hollywood Stars Car Wash and Detail in North Hollywood, California.
