It's good to have them. Thank you, Still Go Barefoot, for starting them!
While much of the discussion there happens afterwards and not "live", it's still important to have a thread for each stop of the tour.

Yes, the SET isn't a loose "let's see what the evening brings" affair similar to earlier times of the NET or (for example) a Bruce Springsteen concert. Instead, It's a consciously arranged theatre-like experience where the flow from song to song is perfected.
But if someone thinks we don't need these threads because he plays "the same songs each night", that's not totally true.
So far, there have been 28 concerts in the US this summer. These changes occurred:

1) June 4 - tour premiere, new song (I Could Have Told You)
2) June 9 - premiere of Free Bird
3) June 10 - Free Bird is gone again
4) June 28 - The Night We Called It A Day replaces What'll I Do; How Deep Is The Ocean (premiere) replaces I'm A Fool To Want You
5) July 3 - That Old Feeling (premiere) replaces How Deep Is The Ocean
6) July 12 - Full Moon And Empty Arms replaces The Night We Called It A Day
7) July 13 - Stay With Me replaces Love Sick

-> So in 7 out of 28 concerts - or in 25% - there have been one or two changes compared to the night before.
+ Bob and his band played four songs live for the first time ever.
Compared to other artists I've seen this summer (Adele and Paul McCartney), these are still pretty high numbers. Of course, instead of 25% we once had 100%. But as Bob said 50 years ago, It used to be like that, and now it goes like this.

If the implicit assumption that we had too many threads now were true, what would be the alternative? One thread called "2016-2020 Rumors and Tour news" and another one called "2016 US summer tour set lists and concert experiences roundup"?

Thank you for the thread of rumours, because my is:
If there is an essential change of the setlist, there will be a wonderful european tour next year.
If there is no change, there maybe will be no setlist.
Because I express both opportunities, they will not happen. But because I wrote "maybe", 2017 will be another year of the set! Much better than nothing!
Maybe it would had been better, not to express it.

They could be called 'Show X discussion thread' or something. Why call it a live setlist where there is no live setlist and tour rumors where there are no tour rumors. It just doesn't make sense. Why go on pretending?

We got a few live updates during the intermission this tour (granted, they were mostly "same old"). I bet the Desert Trip live set list thread will live up to its name. Preferably we can all watch it live via a good video stream and each surprise song will add two new pages to the thread. :D

You're right, there are no rumors, yet. Maybe this thread will reach ten pages before the first proper rumor pops up in a few months. So, yes, we are playing "pretending". Like small children selling each other paper food cans for plastic coins, we exchange wild speculation, daydreams of a possible specific album tour and memories of the good old days. That's fun to some (including me), is it really annoying to others? Do people get their hopes up when this thread gets bumped? Should we relegate such discussion to another thread so that this thread only gets updated with real news? After Sunday's concert, the next big anticipated event will probably be the Desert Trip concerts... I guess the talk about them will take place in the "2016 - Rumors & TOUR News" thread or in a "Desert Trip live set list" thread. You'd be right to say that both would be the wrong place by their name. It's neither rumors, nor news nor is it live. Maybe the naming convention of this subforum should change.
I'm not really invested so much in what the threads are called. I just want to have a place where I can read about some people predicting that Bob keeps the SET 1:1 for Desert Trip and others arguing that he changes it into a greatest hits set list straight from the sixties... and both agreeing in one aspect: that he only does it to piss off his fans.

A rose by any other name...

BTW, there's another reason why some of us don't report anything during the show (other than, you know, being there enjoying it): security keeps cracking down on cell phone usage. In AC, about 15' before Mavis' set, someone in the front row was just looking at a phone (he didn't take any pictures, wasn't even texting at the time) and was immediately warned by security that he had to put the device away, because they had orders not to allow anyone to use their phones in there.

I get that it might be a bit annoying for them, but I think using a mobile device should only be restricted in the cases where the glare from the screen is blinding the musicians (which can usually be avoided by changing the brightness of the display or tilting it to a different position). Otherwise - and if the argument is that people aren't paying attention - they should also crack down on people who talk throughout the show, those who walk around for no good reason and all those who didn't even see part of the show when they were late or left early. Because if their distracted and disruptive behavior is allowed, I should also be allowed to send a live tweet when Bob drops the effing mic.

This was the case for me at the show where he played I Could Have Told You -- first thought was I should post this on ER, next thought was Security Guy is looking at me, next thought was I should just enjoy the show and post at intermission, which was still "live" since the show wasn't over yet.

Personally, I enjoy the camaraderie of the live setlists, but then, I'm a Samuel Beckett fan.
Nothing to be done.

For a while now there has been a total ban on having ' phones' on during the performance - anyone trying to give song by song updates , or news as it happens of any changes, risks being escorted out!
Pre , intermission , and post reports are all it's fair to expect.

Also looking at live setlists as it happens is only really possible if compatible with your time zone , and west to east changes are problematic since for european people , north american gigs are in the middle of the night.
Might get up early for Coachella reports, and definitely will if there is access to a live stream, but it will have to be really interesting to keep me awake!

Wait.
So all those icon-only posts that contain zero words are considered purposeful contributions?

Don't take me too seriously.

Semantics. Take a chill-pill Joey.

I agree with Jo.

Words have sense. Time and moments have sense. We are lucky to be on ER that is a place with interesting and free exchanges and discussions. We can open threads about many delicats subjects or just funny threads and so on. But what the need to open a thread like 2017 rumors with nothing to say about the subject :?

Well, that's not very important after all.

Maybe we could have a "live report show X" when we have a live reporter and "the live set list" for the others ones.

Oh! Before i forget "happy christmas 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and a Merry Christmas 2020".

I don't like liver, so when I go to the grocery store, I don't buy it.

I hope for Europe in Spring/Summer 2017!
However, it would be strange if in 2016 Bob doesn't even make a date in Europe.

We are living globally in very strange times so this would be in keeping.
Just another unexpected change in the old natural order we have to accept
Personally i've had a very strange couple of weeks.
