I can't wait to hear this!!! Simply amazing the unknown unheard stuff that's surfacing lately....

An amazing soundboard of an after-hours jam session with Bob Dylan and Etta James and her band.

July 10 1986 (early morning hours)
Marriot Hotel, Providence R.I.

Bob Dylan (vocal & guitar) with Etta James (shared vocal),
Jack McDuff (organ), Shuggie Otis (guitar), Richard Reid (bass), Paul Humphrey (drums).

1) You Win Again
2) I'm A King Bee (false start)
3) I'm A King Bee
4) Let The Good Times Roll
5) Earth Angel
6) Goodnight Sweetheart (Etta James Lead Vocal)

Excellent soundboard, lots of chatter and Bob-talk. Great fun and excellent music.

Source: DAT >> Soundforge >> CD >> EAC >> FLAC

NOTE: I recently began working through a set of over 100 DYLAN DATs I purchased some years ago. Although my collection has grown by leaps and bounds in that time (thanks to STG, DIME, and many traders) I've still found lots in this set that I don't have digital or on CD. So I'm going through and transferring the stuff I need and will up as much as I can. I found this gem on the very first DAT in the sequence. WOW.

I'm glad to be able to contribute something back, and hopefully some of my stuff will fill holes for the great tapers and traders who post so much Dylan to this site. - DPAM

Got it down and listened to it--I really dont think it's Etta, but rather one of Bob's backup girls he had and the sound quality isnt that good either-if it's a "soundboard" then the soundboard operator is just as sloshed as the people performing. I've got a few Etta James shows off the same site and the women in this sound nothing, speaking or singing, like the incredible Etta James.

There's other sources of it Ive heard before...Other people on the dime are skeptical too- and then a member posted this, which sounds more like reality:

To quote Heylin, "Day by Day:1941-1995" p.276

"July 9, 1986
In the early hours of the morning, a lucky group of fellow guests at the Marriott Hotel in Mansfield witness Dylan performing four songs "You Win Again," "I'm a King Bee," "let the good times roll," and the old Penguin's hit "earth angel" backed by the Queens of Rhythm and a local bar band

Sorry for getting anyone excited unescessarily-I posted before I had it downloaded and listened to.
Others fell for it too until it was heard.

I've had this material on lp for at least 10 years; it's been circulating longer than that.

I'd read that it was a mix of Bob's road band--Petty & the Heartbreakers I think--and Stevie Nick's band who were staying at the Marriott.

It's pretty rough going, definitely a "fans only" session, like a bunch of drunken amateurs, one of whom sounds a little like Bob Dylan. The guitar playing is bluesy and ragged, and I thought it was Bob himself; if it really is Shuggie Otis, that's kind of sad.

Yeah..someone got hornswaggled-thought he had some new undiscovered gem there--the pitch looked good, yah but when listened to it was clear it wasnt as advertised....sounds like it was recorded on a telephone answering machine, too...

I still havent bothered to burn it to disc yet, and dont know if I will...so much other really good stuff available right now-killer versions of shows off the just concluded tour plus good shit from years ago...seems sillly to burn, file and store sumpin' I wouldnt listen too...I got enough of that stuff on my shelves and in my drawers already.... Truthfully, though, that's the biggest skizz I've seen on Dime. Everything else comes in as promised-amazing stuff there-some cat got euckered because he wasn't an accute Dylan fanatic like some, errr most of us there.

GFD,

Thanks a lot for the links & stuff. I love the pictures. That's Dolly Parton isn't it? Do you know who the guy is in the second one?

P.S. Great review you did of the concert in that other thread and your picture of Bob is priceless. I noticed you didn't have any of those "weird sensations" (metallic taste etc.) this time. :D

Yeah, Jimmy, I'm 99% sure that's Dolly....and that's the great Carlos Santana in the other cd sleeve with Bob.....

thanks for reading the review, yeah...those outdoor gigs, to me, have a whole other cache to them than the ones inside. The place in Bend is just so beautiful...the show I saw in Portland, well, the building, a half below ground level dome, reminded me of some kind'a The Day The Earth Stood Still UFO or something, so of course weird thoughts permeated my imagination...I'll take those big Canadian Geese and the smell of Sage in the high desert air over purple lightning in the rafters and the taste of metal...;)

Well, Log, it depends on your connection and how many seeders and leeches are involved in a torrent at any given time-the more in the faster it goes...it's stands to reason that older torrents dont have as many people partaking because they get jumped on as they come up then fade in popularity as time goes on because people are looking for fresh ones. I don't have one of those whip lash connects so a heavily hit torrent for me comes in a couple of hours and a not so trafficked one over the course of a day and a night... I know people with the mega fast connects that can haul'em in real quick

You downloaded some free bittorrent software I hope? I use bitcomet, but there's others too.....the only reason you should NOT be recieving a torrent if you have the gear is because it's a dead one. ie. nobody is logged on that is uploading to you.....I've had fine sucess there, taken hundreds of shows of various artists down...the least of which arent' these here Dylan 2005 shows.

Oh but they're not mp3s, they're FLACs....

if you got a dime membership dont waste it, people try for weeks to get in there...you caught it a good time.....if ya can't handle it maybe pass your new and unused account on to some one else---

I'm really a klutz when it comes to this cyber crap--I mean I dunno really whats going on, I'm just an old hippy. I got some kid to kind'a get me going on it, then I just kept pushing things, for good or ill, until I figured out how to score the downloads...then I just kept repeating what worked, and it works like a champ...here's an article by the cat that invented the system that explains it so I almost understand it:

http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/13.01/bittorrent.html

The only two things you really need for doing it are these deals.
I use http://www.bitcomet.com/ to hook'em up and haul'em down

and you need this doodad:
http://flac.sourceforge.net/
to decompress those files so you can play and burn them
