good catch Warren, i hear that too. ghost-kissing joan in her old neighborhood with that nice old fire fight duet of theirs? great, who cares if it is true

i also hear an extension of the spaghetti western theme that got going last year - Stu was getting so good in his openers i saw tumbleweeds i tell 'ya! thanks Cognac Duke

bob puts two songs together often it seems, so railroad clancy butcher boy mashed in a Morricone django good bad ugly way makes perfect sense for should be-am in h'wood.

Gunner Stu needs a Stetson and a badge.

I think 'Thunder' sounds groovier actually than before - he does get some great tones from that Epiphone Es-355.

The piano definitely isn't as loud either compared to last year.

Highway 61 is totally ridiculous, Bob must be having a laugh dragging it out like he does.

Things have changed, to my ears, sounds the best it has in years.

I love the crooning through Ballad of a thin man too.

One thing I forgot to mention: no Yip (am I remembering his name correctly, the fellow with the limp who has been setting up and tuning Bob's instruments in recent years?). The guy with the white beard, belly and pony tail down his back arranged Bob's stuff. And he didn't tune a guitar for Bob (in other words, Bob had decided in advance that there'd be no guitar). Apologies if this came up in the Amherst forum - I'm avoiding seeing how rigid the setlist is from night to night so that next Saturday has a greater element of surprise for me.)

I wasn't talking about just Duke's solos, but also the overall feel of the song. The video doesn't show the entire performance, but what it does show includes 4 instrumental breaks. #4 is a piano solo by Bob. #'s 1-3 are guitar solos by Duke. #'s 2 & 3 are rather lengthy. It's only toward the end of #3 that things get repetitive & maybe Duke is running out of ideas, but that doesn't spoil the song for me. My ears function just fine, thanks. I've been quite critical of most of what I've heard from 2010-12 but I liked what I heard in this instance.

Neither was I.
But, good for you for finding something you liked in the performance, I wish I could have but unfortunately this time I just couldn't. The song has been over cooked, its done, had its time and a couple of rinky dinky guitar solos won't change that, even if he had Jimi and Neil Young in the band!!!......... I'm probably wrong about that, they possibly  could add something to it.

I agree that the frequency with which "Thunder" appears on set lists is disproportionate to its relative greatness in the Dylan catalog. But I'm more of a guy who will take a good performance over a "good" set list any day. So many so-called "good set list" shows disappoint in the performance IMHO.

I thought it was worth mentioning too.

No one seemed to care.

I care. I just didn't comment on it coz I had nothing useful to add. It's a new message board concept I'm experimenting with. Let me know if you think it's working.

I didn't mean anything negative about it. Actually, what I said was kind of dickish.

Go Steelers!

No problems on my end. I didn't think you were being dickish. That's good information about the bass. :)

Only now it is beginning to look like a Christmas where everyone got you the same present. A really good present mind you.

Holy smoke the Duke is on fire on Thunder - loads of soloing an 10 minutes long. Oddly the song arrangement was back to standard for the next show, eventhough this blows out any other live version of this that I've heard!

Hard to believe that this was just a little over 2 weeks ago! Seems longer.
And today 26 more shows for a new leg were added. Life is good.

I guess that wouldn't be too much more arrogant than when he played there in front of a huge American flag in the 60's. Not sure how it would be received...

That would mean either swapping out bands or a bait and switch.
