With the New Orleans Series said to be painted (partly?) from photos, I guess we can expect more photographic sources to be discovered in the near future. I've tried, but not yet turned up anything new. So far, there are four color photo postcards as well as one black and white photo by Leonard Freed, all listed alongside Bob's paintings on the EDLIS Café facebook site:

If you're interested in purchasing the original postcards, they seem to quite regularly come up on ebay, so keeping an eye on that site for a few days should do the trick. Be careful though to check the details if you want just the right ones, they are popular scenes, but some of the cards offered have slightly different photos on them. The ones with the white borders though as posted by EDLIS are the "correct" ones IMO, i.e. the ones that Bob painted from.

The photos used for the Asia Series of course have been discussed before, here and elsewhere, but it's always so nice to have all information available in one place.

Also on the EDLIS Café facebook site is the photo from which Bob painted his Favela Villa Broncos in the Brazil Series.

Some paintings by Bob about which not too much appears to be known were based on these two photos.

Photo used as cover of Life magazine in the '60s that Bob photoshopped some additional text on a while back. (I guess we'll have a photoshop thread eventually when the Revisionist Art book finally comes out.)

Both of the Leonard Freed photos used for The New Orleans Series (the boy leading the blind man and the four singers in the gospel church) are included in his book "Black in White America", first published in 1968 and out of print for many years until republished in 2010. I wonder which edition Bob has?

I think he's free to help himself at Magnum Photos.... I was wondering about the photo source behind the Minister painting though, that's one I'd really like to see. (Edit: This and the two above mentioned are all in one room at the exhibition - there are 9 rooms for Bob's paintings in total.)

The Minister photo definitely isn't in "Black in White America" - I've checked again. By the way, Bob himself is - almost - in the book himself as there are a number of photos of the 1963 March on Washington.

Thanks for checking. It's interesting that books are even mentioned this time, even though the images are available online. With the Asia Series, it was all online pictures. Now it's this book and the New Orleans travel guide and the postcards, and who knows what else.
