I saw this song live at a show with Campbell & Kimball in 2004. It was the most boring musical performance I ever have witnessed at a Dylan-concert: much too long, only one riff played endlessly, no musical variation and the band played much too loud and heavy so that Dylan was forced to "shout" the lyrics. My wife was standing next to me and simply said "Oh, that's really long" and I was glad when it was over.

I really prefer live performances since 2005/6. There's more musical variation and the instrumental parts by the elctric guitars and the pedal steel are much more interesting. The version from Warszawa 2008 that I have posted earlier is still my favourite and for me the definitive performance of this song.

Other favourites:
Grand Prairie, 15.4.2006 (a somehow subdued performance by the band, but they leave enough room for Dylan's voice)

Honestly TruthIsObscure, that version you posted from Grand Prairie has got to be the finest one I've heard yet. I think it even surpasses Warszawa IMO.
Just incredible! Thanks so much!

The version from TTS is fantastic!! But I always wonder how they picked that one of all
the many amazing versions from those first couple years
with Charlie & Larry....
Here's a bitchin one from 2002, back when he still 'wished his mother was still alive'....

Thanks for that Atlanta version.

I love this song, I can't say that it's one of my favorites off L&T because that whole album is just amazing.

My favorite version as of now is this one, Rochester 2004.

Listened to this one again & I've gotta say this is an incredible rendition and TruthIsObscure just might be right about this statement.
It sounds like they're performing in a little club which always serves Bob in performance.
It starts out normally and Bob & Co get very raucous after about the first verse and doesn't let up for the rest of the number.
Also Denny was in top form in 2008 IMO and he tears it up here. I love the one instrumental verse where he boldly plays one sustained note for the
entirety of the verse!! I'm sure Bob loved the audacity of that one:)
