Expecting Rain

From the grand piano being spotted on the Hop stage to the last show in a bullring, a lot has happened. Bob wraps up Europe 2012 this weekend and it won't be long before they take North America by storm...again. There is no doubt that Bob is back!

What were your memorable moments about this excellent European leg?

Only been to Lyon - but I can say that Bob was really happy that night, played great songs and rocked the piano.

On the bootleg side of this: I really loved Bad Mergentheim - and as people say: It was the best show so far in Europe (those who was there). And the Dresden one is pretty good aswell.

Uhh-humm..... no hat for extended parts of the German shows!
I saw his hair in all its glory, Ms Boston.

...and he played Visions 5 times in 12 shows. ....and I saw them all.

Agree as to Bad Mergentheim. Great performances throughout and, with this show,the band is really starting to feed off the piano riffs, often making everything new again. High water is an example and a highlight. Quincy Jones' impromptu, love-filled intro at Montreaux is a mentionable moment, I think.

He came out and said a few things at the start of the Montreux show. Actually, Stu was already on stage ready to start playing, then this introducer guy comes on and introduces QJ, who in turn shared just about anything he could remember about meeting Bob through the years, while poor Stu could go foreward or back.

What about Dresden's 'I See You Got Your Brand New Bank Of Sand?'

Yeahhh, Watching The Pillbox Flow.... it was kind of amusing but not as much as the 2008 Summer On The Mountain incident (was it Chatillon? somewhere around there).

The new Can't Wait was a def highlight, and also of course for me, those five outings of Visions.

What about Stu's guitar noodling intro? I'm kinda liking them just arriving with no major to-do. How's the vibe on that after many shows in a row?

I'd take Stu's little solo over the Columbia Recording intro any day, so I'm happy with that.

You should have been at Lyon - all the traveling fans made up their minds to call out for Stu when showtime drew near. Everybody suddenly agreed to love Stu, and when he appeared onstage, everybody went, "Stuuu!" "STUUUU!!!" "We love you, Stu!!" It was hilarious, and went on throughout the show. Our little rockstar Charlie was royally pissed that Stu was stealing his thunder.

That hurt! Beeatch.

Did you see what I wrote on the other thread? My first words to Bob this tour: "Take off the fvcking sunglasses!" He did, after a few songs, and put on the hat instead.

would it be possible for you to try to rank those visions performances? pretty strange he did NOT play it at Bilbao...

Other than the intimity of the Cap Roig version, no ranking from me. I was just happy each time.

PS: You find it strange he's not doing the expected? He left out the museum / Mona Lisa bit, even.

hmm...well he's also not shy about doing the expected thing pretty regularly - masterpiece in italy - cold irons bound in chicago, etc.
it will be interesting to see if he does cold irons bound in chicago this fall as it is the first time it's been out of regular circulation in a few years...

meeting Tony backstage and chatting with him for about 20 minutes, and then with Charlie over a salad in "catering" has to be the best thing that ever happened to Loraine and me at any show ever. And we are sure Bob was in a loge (dressing room) within a few metres of us all the while. And then the show itself was the best ever! Big thanks to Ed Ward for getting us the passes!

All of those normal people must have thought we were booing before it had even started. It definitely topped the barking people of Bad Mergentheim.

Like at Latin America tour... it's difficult to say because there is many of them.
