Bob Dylan and His Band
Zitadelle Spandau
Berlin, Germany
Monday, 2 July 2012

So now, Bob and friends take a "Hop" across the English Channel to mainland Europe for the 18th show of the '2012 Never Ending Tour' where he becomes part of the Zitadelle Music Festival. The venue looks incredible. The Zitadelle was built in the 1500's on the remains of a medieval fort on an island at the confluence of two rivers and has quite a history. It is apparently one of the best-preserved Renaissance military fortresses in all of Europe! There's even a Watchtower which I think if you ask politely, they'll let you go all along. Here's to Bob's band successfully storming the place! (With grand piano in tow.)

As you can see from the "Visit Berlin" web link below, these people really know their Dylan!

From: http://www.visitberlin.de/en/event/07-0 ... d-his-band.
Berlin, GERMANY - Bob Dylan will have four open air concerts in Germany this year. One of them will take place in line with the Citadel Music Festival in Berlin. The singer and songwriter already sold more than 110 million sound carriers. His probably most famous song "Blowin' in the wind" describes the attitude of life of his generation. Since the first release in the 60ies the song was interpreted by many other artists.

I personally don't think the Piano will be on tour, just for that gig. It's probably another artists or something, and he decided to use it.

I think so too . Otherwise it would have been a regular piano , not a grand piano for our grand pianist  .
What i really need to know though is : did any of the artists that performed last night play the grend piano? It would have been very surprising ( but pretty great ) if someone from patti's band used it. I don't know about the others

Hi :)

So excited, cannot wait for the show tomorrow. I will be there...!

I don't know my way around Berlin too well, hopefully i will find the place...

If anyone who is going is reading this, doors open at 5.30, but what time should I be there to find a reasonably ok place?

Thank you and look forward to meeting a few of you!
Carolina

yes we know about your preferences

i think you won't have to worry - by the end of the show, you'll like modbob all over again. The pillbox from last night was much better than things have changed...he's still got some left in the register....

every time i think they've ran Pillbox to the ground, the deliver it with perfect precision. Charlie and Stu have some great moments in this song....

Viel Spaß !
Enjoy the show.

It has been reported that the grand piano was used by Randy Crawford. I'd guess that it was a one-off thing (although I'd love to be proven wrong!), however, it seems strange that the piano stayed after she finished. All the other bands' crap was definitely long gone by the time Bob hit the stage. How would Bob have known about the piano when he doesn't attend the soundcheck and only arrives 15 mins. before showtime?

The only reason I could think of is that they weren't able to get the grand piano off the stage in-between sets and asked Bob beforehand if it was okay if the piano stayed and he then decided to use it?!

Believe me, it's very easy for a crew to remove a grand piano from the stage, put it down or on the side or whereelse in max. five minutes.. anyway it's far away from "grand". It's a normal size type not a concert type, it evens look shorter than the standard type. Billy Joel and Elton John used to play bigger ones. we will see but it looks like it belongs there and is his instrument.

(The rehearsals for the instrument??)

I'd agree, but Randy Crawford did play on it if the reports are correct and I'd find it unusual if Bob let anyone use his gear, especially BEFORE his set. But we'll find out if the piano is there to stay in a few hours.

But was there not reports of Bob rehearsing before the tour? Does he normally need to do that? No piano was mentioned though. I do wish to see the piano on this tour but it would still be wonderfully Bob if it was a one off. A piano on stage you say? Well, lets skip what we have done during the last few hundred shows, and what we have rehearsed and try the piano. :-) How many artists can or would dare to do such a thing?
