joe walsh, a somewhat minor figure and no neil young, wasn't sufficient to overcome the emotional flatness and sterility that all that cocaine brought with it. they sound like an air conditioner

and commercial success doesn't necessarily equal quality

i dont know about him being a minor figure back in the day, the james gang had a rep back then.
i dont think they were aiming at quality, tho they had some, but at monetary success, which they were lacking prior to walsh signing up and them giving up the cowboy outfits and themes. no more david blue covers, a brand new direction.

walsh and the james gang, though known somewhat in certain circles for a brief time, never approached even the lower limits of the stratosphere. sometimes new directions don't lead anywhere.

james gang was pretty big during their time same basic level of fame that the eagles had then. big party band, saw them once myself.

joe walsh is no neil young but if neil is taken hes not a bad choice for the position of hard rocker in a soft rock band.

i would argue your first point; eagles much bigger even at that point than james gang ever had hopes of being. sales figures alone for eagles' first several albums and singles show that.

Man, I forgot all about Harry Nilsson! I had an album of his back in the 70's ...i think it
was him singing old standards, but i'm not sure about that.
...that was a good song he wrote for Midnight Cowboy...

the video wont play but yes thats probably it. its a country rock standard but i prefer the Nilssons version. i love nilsson, he got tore up for his music on popeye but i love the music for that made it one of my fav movies of all times. and the point is by far my fav non ninja cartoon.
