Wouldn't it be great if I had a superb vinyl drop of 'Slow Train Coming' that rivals Benny's 'Hard Rain' in terms of clarity, musicality and sheer beauty?

Call me a luddite but if you want to hear it that way why not just buy the original vinyl and some decent kit in the first place? I can confirm that it sounds even better that way...

Try carrying a turntable in your pocket when out and about....

... or weeping with despair as on every play of your vinyl, it gets more and more clicky and poppy and rumbling...

Yep - some of those guys out there are serious to the max about their needledropping. It's a whole subculture unto itself. I am led to believe they even have their own secret cave network.

If I do, it's either live or in a suitably quiet environment. To me at least, it's more than just blocking out other noises.

My portable music is done via flac files through a Cowon J3 set my custom EQ, via Hifiman RE272 earphones.

The world doesnt exist when I press play.

Perhaps, someone, me, will do a rip of the trilogy by the end of the month. Stay tuned.

Took me a while to reach this particular combo but the upgradeitis itch hasnt bitten for a while, so I'm happy.

Of course, if you want to get really picky, you can run the RE272 via a balanced headphone amp and squeeze a few more drops of juice out of them...but hey.....

I was trying to get some advice about players and headphones awhile back and wish Ben and others could offer some advice here or in this thread.

I just looked at the ones you posted and they are definitely out of my price range at the moment. Anyone have suggestions for less pricey but great sounding options? I wind up converting everything from flac to MP3s because I used itunes. I know that is defeating the purpose of the flac files but I have mostly been using itunes on the computer because it is compatible with my iphone which is my only portable device. Help!!
