When I try to upload a pic for my avatar, it says the limit is 10kb but all of my photos are bigger than that and theyre nothing fancy. I see people that have actual video as their avatar. What am I doing wrong?

The avatar’s filesize must be between 0 and 10 KiB, and the size is limited to 140x100.

...i edited a picture so that it is just a head-shot. Then i loaded it into Imageshack to get a code for use
as an avatar....but ER is still rejecting the photo, saying it is 35kb. I can't make it any smaller ! :?

I was somewhat upset and annoyed by the misleading title of this thread... I consider myself to be something of an expert on the ground-breaking, CGI animated classic, bette noir movie Avatar... so, no doubt, you can all imagine how I felt when I eagerly and excitedly clicked on this thread only to discover it has effing nothing to do with the film!

I would suggest that the originator of this thread takes more care when naming his threads to avoid any further confusion and disappointment!

Try reducing the quality of the picture.

I've got a MacBook, and I use Preview.
When I've cut and edited, and resized a picture,
before saving it I have an option to make the quality better or worse.

What program do you use to resize you pictures?

Imageshack.

I edited the original picture and thought i resized it for avatar size, but it is still showing up as 35KB .
ER won't accept any more than 10KB for an avatar.
:x

Just upload the avatar to tinypic.com (for example) and paste the link under Link off-site: in your control panel. Mine is much bigger than 10kb. The 10kb limit is only for uploading the avatars to this site's own space, so it wouldn't get crammed up.
