The New Wilburys would obvious have to have the surviving, original members. Well, except for Jeff Lynne. That guy can suck it.

So...

Bob Dylan (guitar, harmonica, "vocals")
Tom Petty (bass guitar - his original instrument, guitar, vocals)
Dr. John (piano, organ, vocals, etc.)
Marc Ribot (lead guitar)
And let's put Charlie Watts on the drums. I can never get enough of Mr. Watts cracking the whip. Jim Keltner's nice and all, but he's a bit too laid back for my tastes lately.

I say we also throw in a female singer for good measure. Say Irma Thomas. She's been around. Or Neko Case (if we want to throw in a younger generation).

As for producer... Anybody but Don Was.

Very sly use of inverted commas there, very sly.

Bob Dylan
Tom Petty
Neil Young
The Boss
Joan Baez

But let's face it. Nothing will ever come close to the original Traveling Wilburys. Lately, I've been listening excessively to their albums, and they're just so much fun. Fantastic!

I still don´t quite understand why they must be 5. Do we want them to reuse the clothes the used to have in the original band?

Close, but no cigar - Bob, Gloria Estefan, Rick Astley, Englebert Humperdinck and Morrisey.

I always thought that when the Wilburys came out that the weak links were Petty and Lynne... I always fancied Roger McGuinn and John Fogerty in those other roles,,, When Roy Orbison died, the rumor was Del Shannon was going to be the addition-but then he passed away...So I figured that the Wilburys would be cool if they got Dion or the Everly Bros. to continue the theme..such are dreams..

I think the best idea would be to group together Howling Wolf, John Lee Hooker, Little Walter, Memphis Slim & Billy Stepney and call them the 'Stationary Blueberries'....
