Oh sweet mercy, this is good. I really enjoy the Brazilian cries of "oh" on the stops. :D

ooops! Argentinians! Sorry Argentinians! I was so intoxicated by your cries of "oh" I forgot where Bob was. Plus, "Cry A While" is my 20 point song in the pool. :)

oh hell yes.

i wouldn't mind if this became the new encore staple, like jolene did awhile back.

as soon as i lose faith, a tiny mercy arrives. like a reprieve from something inconceivable.

I got a little excited when I saw this in the setlist, it's been one of the few songs he's done well over the past ten years, but now he's even managed to x that one up. Oh well, there's still Forgetful Heart i guess, or has that one gone to shit now too?

This is just overall good new - it's good to see that Romeo is possibly recording some of these shows, and the new arrangment is a pretty funny stop-and-start blues. Although I do feel I it's similar to Rainy Day Women (and I should get half the Pool-points, at least!), it does bring back the joy from the album-version. Cool!

 Funny! A lot of people make this kind of confusion. We are from the same land, should not be a problem.

thank you for posting Appleberry! yey! his singing sounds pretty energized and the band sounds active so far this tour.

i don't like this arrangement either. this song is supposed to be a dagger. but oh well, it's different.

there's a lick in there that is a lift from watching the river flow....so quite a nice parallel....

I really like it, it sounds like it's been picked up out of the dirt that is the album version.

also, nice to see Bob Zimmerman around these parts - why don't you hurry up and get to your 10,000 landmark? a little word association never hurt anybody!

We'll take it. Funny that the big news these days is a tune that hasn't been played in only 2 years. But what the hell, at least it's played a little differently than the last umpteen times that we heard or saw it. It almost doesn't matter to me if I like it or not. ANY change is positive and denies stagnancy. It is what it is and it's all relative. Thanks Bobby.

Don't like it.

And LEOPARD-SKIN PILL-BOX HAT. And WATCHING THE RIVER FLOW. et al. There's nothing distinguishing about it.

I disagree. At a certain point it's like he thinks all he has to do is play something differently (or something he hasn't played for a while) and that's good enough. The point should be to play the songs well and in sympathetic arrangements. Just "different from before" doesn't cut it. The song has no impact like this, nor did it in any of its other middling incarnations since he dropped the L&T arrangement, which I'm 90% sure the song was written around rather than the reverse. The quick-slow tempo change may be a gimmick but it's what made the song. This doesn't make me feel he's interested in it again, just that he's going through the motions of "changing things up" to cover for his increasingly limited ability to do anything more than rasp. "I'll play different songs, even though they'll sound the same as the others!"

that's a lot of meat for the the bob dylan tour section - perhaps we could table that for the under-utilized discuss recordings section??? (not disagreeing with any of your points)

i was just going to comment on how nice it's been to have relatively positive tour threads to enjoy....

The last time 'Cry A While' was performed was on August 7, 2010 in Kansas City, Missouri.
