I've recently grown to appreciate the difference in attending to one side of a record, versus popping in a long CD that i pass in and out of attention with. and many dylan albums seem to be structured around these segments. so, i'm starting a poll series about preferred sides on vinyl. i'm not really centering on the value of any one song over the other, but rather how each side flows and stands coherently.

this poll: DESIRE

Joey haters will have to part with Black Diamond Bay
Black Diamond bay lovers will have to part with, well all of side 1. but then there's the oh sister factor... this could be hairy. tears may be shed. it was supposed to be fun game. I'm sure you know which poll is next. I don't think i could even type the words for it. it may take awhile.

Yes, I love both sides... yes, it's an impossible and ultimately unreasonable request!
Therefore, I voted for side 2 for an unreasonable reason... I couldn't do without the WAY that Romance In Durango segues into Black Diamond Bay.
Magic.

I don't want to live in a world without "Black Diamond Bay", but side A has so many great tracks that I just have to vote for this one.

the bennyboy double cd everytime, sorry - a wonderful album rendered twice as good if not more, abandoned desire is the one for me. having said all that, side one.

Was about to type these very words, when I saw you'd taken care of it.

Romance in Durango followed by Black Diamond Bay is the highlight of this album. If side two would only consist of this two songs I would vote for it.
Joey is too long I always skip after "tunes of an accordion". Sarah is fine, like the harmonica.
On Side 1 there is Mozambique which is fun but nothing significant and Oh Sister sucks.
I prefer Isis performed live, Hurricane and One More Cup are fine.

Side 2 because there's not much to hear on Side One, maybe Isis once a year

I edited my digital version of Desire a long time ago to include Abandoned Love at the end, so I always forget that it's not actually on the album...If Dylan had included it instead of Joey as originally planned, Side II would have been perfect. But, I digress...

I voted for Side II anyways, because of Black Diamond Bay.

Isis, One More Cup of Coffee and Oh Sister are enough to get my vote. I don't what the thread started meant by the "Oh Sister factor" but if he was implying that this song is a bad one, he's sadly mistaken, it's one of my favorite Dylan songs. Tough, tough choice. Because I'm sick of Hurricane (love it, but just heard it too much), and Joey is the weakest on the album. But I love Romance in Durango, Black Diamond Bay and Sara. I'm voting for Side 1, but I figure if I was forced to only hear that side for a while I'd have a strong Desire (did you see what I did there) to hear Side 2.

Hurricane & Isis, on the same side and back to back.
No sweat.

Yeah if Abandoned Love took Joey's place on the album, I'd go for Side 2 also

very hard, first dylan album i ever bought. But i had to go with side 2, every song on this album is perfect, as is every bob album :)

why did he never put Abandoned love on this? it's one of my favourite bob dylan songs, the "bitter end" is the best version though for me.

This is like asking me to choose between my left and right nipples ... surprisingly easy! Side A. Hurricane and Isis flow so well, one into the other, and then One More Cup and Oh Sister do the same.
