Does Bob use this computer program when he writes songs? Does Bob think using a program like this (or something like it) would be a good idea? What do other members of ER think?

This was mentioned before but the thread got deleted and so the link was lost. I have been assured that it is OK to discuss this topic.

If someone needs a computer program to help write their songs. They shouldn't write songs.

I don't think he uses any computer programs when he's writing. The only tool he probably ever would use is a rhyming dictionary.

DylanEgo is a delightful poster.

I doubt Bob uses anything but his mind, though.

Bob's used a rhyming dictionary after being introduced to it by Roger McGuinn sometime in the 1970s. It's use is evident on Street Legal. We know by now he uses all kinds of resources, from movie dialogue to news media to fiction writing, in addition to, of course, earlier songs.

He has always used for inspiration, poetry, songs, movies, etc., for his work. I am probably mistaken, but it sounds like you are reducing his gift to a pile of reference books

Not at all, I admire his gifts. Obviously, he created and continues to create great work nobody else did. But if you read into the subject, you'll find that so many of his great lines and achievements of recent years have been lifted wholesale from other sources. Again, I love Bob as much as anyone. I actually defended his alledged 'stealing' of old photographs for his Asia Series painting in ISIS magazine. But the facts are there, though each of us will draw their own conclusions.

Scott's blog is a goldmine for tracing Bob's literary borrowings:

That software is rather interesting..... but it does seem that someone like our Bob using it would be rather that same as a five star chef using a frozen dinner and a microwave to cook.....
But back in the day the Brill Building would have loved it. :P

Can you just enter key themes that you want to be in the song, assign the atmosphere of your preferment, and get a song out? What would you guys enter? I think I would start with: "Soup", "morning", "women", "winter", "work", "drunkenness", and demand it to have a lounge vibe.
