Is Aspergers supposed to be an insult?

The autism spectrum is much broader than when it was first being recognized. When I first started reading about Bob last fall, I must admit that the thought did cross my mind, but only tentatively. I recently read a story and a watched a corresponding video about a girl who had been diagnosed with Autism. I wish I knew how to find it again. She didn't speak throughout her entire childhood and her parents had been told she had a very low IQ. When she was a teenager, she got a hold of a computer and begin to write and express herself with amazing clarity. She was extremely articulate and quite an intelligent young woman and very capable of expressing her emotions when typing. Lo, for all these years everyone thought she had an underdeveloped brain and void of emotion but that couldn't have been further from the truth.

I am not saying that Bob has Aspergers, but I am saying that though some say he doesn't communicate well one on one, he obviously has a beautiful mind and has found a way to express himself that is remarkable, perhaps unparalleled, and very in touch with his fellow man.

Back to my first sentence, I don't think Bennyboy meant it as an insult (maybe he could clarify), but I think people seem to take it that way. Again, I have no way of knowing if this is something that is even a valid consideration. All I am trying to say is that if it were true, is someone supposed to think less of a person with Austism or Aspergers? Does that in any way diminish their gifts, or them as a person? Not even close.

No, of course it's not. I didn't read it as an insult, but as a provocation. A very obvious provocation. Most of BB's posts are.

No, it wasn't meant as an insult. Of course it wasn't.

There used to be a right dickhead here called 'rimbaud'. He might still be around for all I know. His big attack on me was to claim I was mentally ill and therefore anything I said was not to be trusted. Quite right on the first point - during 2009 I was diagnosed with depression and took medication until late last year. I still struggle with weird lows from time to time, but I deal with it much better now.

But having mental issues doesn't invalidate me, and it doesn't define me. Its just what I have from time to time. Brain chemistry gets a bit wrong, and stuff like that. I can still do huge farts and enjoy peanut butter.

if you want to call me mentally ill, go ahead. It's a label and it helped me get treatment.

If I say Bob has Aspergers, so what? I'm not saying "Bob has Aspergers so his version of 'Rollin' & Tumblin' on Modern Times is a really weak direct ripoff of the original". Which it is, of course, but the two dont share a logic correlation.

And when I say 'Bob has Aspergers' I mean 'I have no proof, but I reckon it's true'

So - Bob has Aspergers.

Now carry on.

If you just want to tell that Bob probably isn't 100% "health" person mentaly - i can agree. It can be true. But i shouldn't put a specific diagnosis, because i'm not a doctor and i've even never met him.

I haven't read such a load of shite since some woman named Kate diagnosed Charlie Sexton as being a heroin addict on the old Dylan.com site

Benny, your honesty is most refreshing, as always. And I wish you the best of luck. Lincoln, along with numerous other notables, suffered from depression. And not only are your views valid, they are most welcome. Your talent is vast.

And JP ridiculing wiki? What a joke. She ran to it yesterday to try and trash marijuana about the long term effects, while at the same bragging about her taste in wine - a infinitely more dangerous, and actually deadly, drug. Her hypocrisy and blindness is stunning. I'm always shocked to see anti-pot zealots on a Bob Dylan site - AND in the position of moderator!

Of course, these types are "walking antiques" who have been "bent out of shape by societies pliers". The cruel irony is that the Bob they so love has nailed them to a tree.

I was quite clearly not ridiculing wiki as a whole, but I guess you can twist anybody's words. If you look up Benny's wiki source, you'll find it's just a list with no validation whatsoever (footnotes and sources go a long way towards making wiki articles valuable).

This is the link I provided during our discussion the other day. One third of the page are footnotes, and the sources seem pretty valid to me.

No, you weren't ridiculing Wiki, it just LOOKED that way! And those are your exact words - no twisting necessary.

What a joke. While we are on the subject of disorders, maybe we should look into "moderator inflated ego syndrome"

Well, on second thought JP, I could be wrong. "Naive bully" might be a better label. Forgive me.

Do you own a mirror, or do you just have general problems with authorities?

I have a problem with people in authority positions who perpetrate myths about pot, and happily attack others, as you do. For it is misinformed people like you who have caused the needless arresting, and denying of rights to tens of millions of people. What has happened because of people like you - is a minor holocaust.

I find this particularly rancid at a Bob Dylan site. For though you may be very familiar with the music of Bob Dylan, you clearly know little about his and most musician's lifestyle.

I don't think I stubbed out anyone's joint lately. The way you act towards me, you'd think I did.

In reality, you bore me with all this repetition. Saying pot is the way because Bob used is like saying Christianity is the way because Bob used....

Bring on the soccer already.

Good god, this thread was sort of absurd from the beginning (or rather from the moment BB came up with the Asperger thing) but now it's getting really really weird...

I know this is a bit off topic, and I know I have posted it before... however, I'd like to share it again... but first... do the huge farts have anything to do with your peanut butter consumption? If it does... guess what:

If you suck in and gulp your fart in while breathing in through your nose all at the same time, you can taste your fart... if it was a smelly one to begin with....

I noticed this once by being in a casino. I was breathing in with my mouth and nose and this guy farted... I had the unfortunate pleasure of eating a stranger's excess gas.
