When's the next album gonna come out then?

Tomorrow.

If that turns out to be wrong, then maybe it will be the next day instead, which means that answer will be right, but not until tomorrow. And if now just continue on until it is correct.....

Given that there haven't even been any rumors about a next album, I'm going to go with "not for a while."

I like to think part of the reason for the long break from touring is a new album in the pipeline for later this year.

Im really praying that a prolonged break yields a great album.
Im really hoping Bob releases something that is a definitive statement before he retires.
I believe in the man, and thats why im still here.
But i have found the last decade a real struggle in terms of being a participating active fan of 'current' Bob.
Ive found that the live shows have taken a progressive nose-dove since about 2000. and its got to the point where the band really do sound like "Robo-Zombies" (a term coined on Expexcting Rain") and Bobs bark seems to betray the genuine expressiveness in his voice that i have always adored and respected. His recorded work has yielded even less music that i admire or enjoy. the songwriting is blatantly lazy and predictable . i respect the compiling of disparate musical and literary sources to a point, (i think Love and Theft is a masterpiece) but he hasnt completed a genuine; coherent; independent or emotional statement since Time out of Mind or Oh Mercy. Basically i think the last decade or so have been the bleakest of his musical career.
But i still believe in him, and i believe that we will all be left with a crowning mysterious masterpiece before he knocks it on the head.
Im not holding my breath for 2012, but it is curious why he has taken such a long time before announcing any gigs for the year....here's hoping!!!
Despite the disillusion i may have expressed in this post, i will still sporadically check in on the 'Tour' threads to see how the NET is going. But its only cos i love the man, not because im expecting anything. just hoping!

when i reach for Dylan those past years, I grab Together Through Life or Modern Times.
excited to hear what he does next.

With all due respect, which rock have you been living under?

Modern Times doesn't even come close to the triumphs of artists such as Sufjan Stevens, Wilco, Arcade Fire, Björk, Sigur Ros, Animal Collective or Beck.

We've had plenty of great music in the 21st Century (so far). Dylan made some minor albums, that may be generally be enjoyable for some, but most definitely won't be remembered as the best of that period.

To be more extreme, no one would give two shits about Modern Times, if the name BOB DYLAN wasn't printed on it.

I'm quite bored so why not start some outrageous rumor.

Bob Dylan is right now working in the studio placing the finishing touches on an upcoming album. It was recodred with Paul McCartney sharing songwriting credits. NME reporter who had a rare chance of listening to the bits says: "It's a life changing music. One of the track "Yesterday Is A Long Time Ago (But We Still Have One More Morning, so it's not that bad)" is tearjerking duet about love gone wrong".

I seem to recall MT making lots of mainstream best-of-the-decade lists, and Love and Theft making even more. I happen to rank to L&T way, way up there - one of the best albums of the century for sure, even if it's not the most forward looking. I think it will be remembered long after many others are forgotten, even ones with a more fashionable sound (and I do like all the groups you mentioned, to some degree).

"L&T" is incredible and rivals the sixties trilogy. If anyone else made this album, it would be heralded as one of the best albums of the last fifty years, but you can never be as great as yourself.

As great as you are man, you'll never be greater than yourself.

I have been impressed by his 4 most recent efforts plus the bootleg series released over that time. And I speak as a man who was a teenager in the sixties. I await any new recording.
