My wallet thanks Columbia for another RSD release which won't be troubling it.

That album is a very sad affair.

it would be nice to see something released that reflects some of the great moments (even if they are few and far between)

I have always loved this version of Joey...it used to come on the radio all the time when I worked at a donut shop.

Was right up front & center for that Joey at the tour kickoff show.
An amazing time leading up to and surrounding a fantastic show.
The record certainly was a no-frills, hurried affair.
I think Dylan reviewed it on a cassette boom box.

Oh tidings of great joy, let our yells of approval ring out across the mountains. (I'm being sarcastic).

And for next year's record store day they'll be releasing an lp of the Stuttgart '91 bootleg.

This has got to be Columbia testing out the theory that we will really buy absolutely anything they choose to release.

On deluxe virgin vinyl at 45 rpm.

Dylan and the Dead is the worst album of Dylan's career, bar none. They should be doing everything they can to keep it from turning young off to Bob Dylan for life. Promoting it in this way is an astonishingly stupid idea.

The only album I've ever literally thrown away. My copy is in a landfill somewhere in southern Ontario.

I certainly won't be joining the very lengthy queue at my nearest record store to fight and try and get this. I've got the CD and if there's no bonus tracks on offer I really don't see the point of wasting money (and storage space) for this release. I did get the Japanese Tourist Edition 7" vinyl single of the four songs from Fallen Angels, that ended up in the reduced section some months later!

It's sad to say, but this album really represents the worst. Throw 'Down in the Groove' on the bottom next to this one and be glad it goes up from here, to amazing new heights later on.

And yeah there are you enough copies of this out there for the people who want them.

Agreed. Of all of Dylan's albums to release on Record Store Day, whose idea was it to do this one?

A good friend once said he liked this album. I thought he was trying to be different/out there, as it is complete garbage.

That said "Slow Train" is good. The rest is just meandering, sloppy garbage.

I'm glad the Bootleg Series is releasing some quality live music, as past live albums have often been mind-bogglingly bad.

I remember when I bought the remastered cd. i wanted to impress this girl who liked the dead. We all lost that year.

There were so many other pretty good performances that year. Didn't this only have 8 tracks?

I really would like to know how the decision process for this release went. It absolutely doesn#t make any sense at all.
I'm glad that is is going to be another RSD I won't have to spend waiting in line in front of some record store.

Red and blue tie-dye vinyl!

Bob Dylan & The Grateful Dead, Dylan & The Dead (LP – Red and Blue Tie-Die Vinyl)
In 1987, two legends joined forces for an unforgettable tour. Now, Dylan & The Dead, featuring The Grateful Dead backing up Bob Dylan on seven of his classic songs, including "All Along The Watchtower," "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" and "Gotta Serve Somebody," is available on red and blue tie-dye vinyl for a trip unlike any other.

In case it gets overlooked there is also another Dylan title up for grabs on RSD 2018 - a 7" vinyl release of Masters Of War. Not sure about the quantities involved.

Wouldn't be that 'rework' by that French dude would it? I can't see why they'd release the original again.

I too have the remastered Dylan / Dead CD. Enough is enough. Does anyone have a list of all Dylan record store day releases ?

I bought this record about 10 years ago, more or less. I've heard it twice or thrice. Heck if I remember anything about it

Post subject:  Re: Dylan & the Dead - Record Store Day Release - April 2018

I found a decent original vinyl copy of this a few years back for about £1.

I bought it. I've listened to it. While I don't hate it as roundly and determinedly as others, there is absolutely no reason to buy this again.... some of the tour that year produced some great results.... it would make sense to release a Bootleg Series of the Temples In Flames Tour from 87, or some Dylan/Dead shows from 87... but this is pointless.

Much like Record Store Day itself, really. Vinyl is my go-to format, and Record Store Day is the one day of the year I'm guaranteed to not set foot in a record store. What's the point?

There hasn't yet been one, not ONE Record Store day release that I've wanted to queue for....

And who needs a single of Masters of War now? Very weird.
