I wonder if anybody "in the know" ever explained why the first take of "Wild Wolf" (with Garth Hudson on organ - described by Sid Griffin in the revised edition of Million Dollar Bash, pp 212/213) was not released on the "complete" Basement Tapes-boxset?

Hi Joe,
It’s a good question, which has remained mostly unanswered.
I think.
It was asked about in one of the BS11 threads and also was
touched upon in this ER thread,
Wild Wolf Lyric Discrepancies:

There are so many knowledgeable people around these parts,
hopefully your question will shed some light on other tidbits of info.
Which we love.

Oh yes, that would be very nice indeed! I love the take on BS 11, so a second one'd be appreciated :D

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I remember this has been discussed back then.
But I was hoping that in the meantime someone like Griffin, Heylin etc. has shed some light on this....

As for the upload-requests: the track is not in circulation.

There's a hearty handful of "Basement Tapes" tracks mentioned by Sid Griffin in his book that were not released. The last I heard, Sid was asked by someone at a Q&A and he had no idea. He was given CD's by the label to reference. Then the official release left them out. As far as I know, they are not circulating anywhere.

It was said that some tracks were "unsalvageable" yet Sid was able to both recieve them and describe them (with no note of poor quality).
