Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I would be thrilled if Dylan followed through with his notion of doing an album of “religious songs” that he mentioned in his Tempest interview. Something along the line’s of Johnny Cash’s “My Mother’s Hymbook.” Dylan has expressed his love for these songs, even recently (his Music Cares speech for instance). Songs like those he’s mentioned—A Closer Walk With Thee, Rock of Ages, etc.

Oh please, no more godbothering music.

Oh, and I like Triplicate better than SITN.

Not unpopular with me. Anyway, nearly all his songs are religious, some not so prosaically as others.

A pipe dream, I suppose, but an album of Leonard Cohen songs would be cool

Some great ideas in here. Redoing his first ever album is the one that I thought would be cool.

BTW, anyone else think Bob is holding off releasing a new album of originals until we hit 2020 in order to claim he's had original albums out in every decade for 7 decades?

I would prefer if he would release an album of originals right now and then another one in 2020.

I think that with the trilogy (Shadows In the Night - Fallen Angels - Triplicate) the Sinatra Era is over.

It's time for a new album with unpublished material. After over 50 covers, I think Bob Dylan has a lot of inspiration for write new material.

I'd prefer originals but for covers I'd like to hear him do Straight To Hell by the Clash with Mick Jones on guitar/production.

As a 'one off' SITN is a great addition to Dylan's catalogue but unfortunately someone should have said enough is enough.

Release so many albums per year and we’ll pay you this...

Bob says he doesn’t really enjoy recording, so he goes in and plows through tons of the oldies, finds a groove and figures out a way to satisfy several albums at once. Boom. Factory efficiency with writing expectations & pressure off.

Now it’s time to spew out anything that comes off the pen.
We’ll eat it up, complain about it, love it, then want more!

Or just put out that 2017 Live album, as rumored speculation has it.
Yet another way to satisfy a record deal without producing new originals.

Nothing other but a SPICE GIRLS cover album will do. Would be perfect.

Especially they lyrics of Wannabe, or whatever it's called. LIVE can you imagine.

He can sing at the audience 'So what you really want, do you really really really want....'

and audience, they can sing back 'I wanna (ha), I wanna (ha), I wanna (ha), I wanna (ha), I really wanna, wanna, wanna zigaziga ha'. Or whatever. Perfect!!!

It's far too obvious I know, but I'd really like to hear him do some of the old folk songs that he does so well but never officially released. Some solo, and some duets with the usual suspects. Now that her voice is deeper and huskier, I can hear him and Baez doing a fresh take on "Wild Mountain Thyme". Maybe "Deportee" with Steve Earle, "Barbara Allen" with Lucinda Williams, "Railroad Boy" with Jack White, "Banks of Pontchartrain" with Samantha Fish. Then a solo piano take on "St James Infirmary". Stuff like that. I know it won't happen, but it's too bad because I don't think there's another singer alive who could do these songs better.

It seems we all want new originals. We all also seem to be sick of the Sinatra covers.

Which means we'll probably get a sixth album of crooning.

Sinatra did "Sinatra's Sinatra", a cover album of songs made famous by himself, in 1963.

So, how about doing "Dylan's Dylan"? I think it would be at least interesting, or even great to see him re-interpret songs he recorded before. (deep cuts appreciated)

Or just a live album of "Never Ending Tour".

A full album of Townes Van Zandt-songs would be great - there are so many fantastic songs of him.

As long it says Christmas In the Heart, Volume ll I'll be good. I'll trust his judgment and taste...

Perhaps he could do holiday themed cover albums for the rest of his career. He's done Christmas already, let's say the last few cover Valentines Day. Now the Halloween album, lots of songs to cover there. Independence Day would be good, he could dip into the Americana well with that, dig up some old Revolutionary War songs. Then onward to Thanksgiving, Presidents Day...
