Do discussion groups (excuses to drink) like this really exist?

EXPECTING RAINer's and EVERYONE:
What if we expand the parameters of Expecting Rain by taking it to the bar to discuss Bob Dylan in person?
(just like Bob wouldn't want us to do)

Albums, Bootlegs, Books, Film -- we'll select one work per month as an assignment. You and I and everyone will listen-watch-read a work by Dylan or about Dylan. We'll make notes (or not) and meet at [some fine establishment] to discuss. I have a decent-sounding Bluetooth speaker to review selections, and if someone has one of those projector-phones, well, maybe we can watch key scenes, as well.

Think about it. When was the last time you listened closely to John Wesley Harding? How about hearing (and seeing) a full Dylan show from Toronto 1980? Have you ever experienced Renaldo and Clara? Have you read Chronicles Volume One? And surely Volume Two is in the offing for the new year (no rumor, just speculation); wouldn't it be great to share your thoughts in person?

Well, to me this sounds totally wonderful. The crucial question, though, would be: Where do you live?

Good idea. Hopefully there is no limit on travel reimbursement expenses.

I live in the metro Atlanta area. A good location for these sorts of things is historic (and newly renovated) Manuel's Tavern.

I was dining in a restaurant in Duluth, GA before a Dylan show in 2007 when I overheard a group at the next table talking about Dylan. That's how I discovered Expecting Rain. 'Don't know who those guys were, but my preoccupation with Dylan increased tenfold after that!

Only a £600 return flight for me! Who's willing to chip in? I'll get the first round and bring a copy of John Wesley Harding!

Can only answer for me....but possibly if given enough advance notice - and most importantly - at an attractive destination where this gathering wouldn’t be the only item on the docket. Just in case the um gathering turned out to be a bust...no offense, but y’know, it happens. So, Duluth would be a no. Atlanta? No. New York, Boston, Montreal or San Francisco etc. YES!

I'd consider the Chicago meetup. I wonder how many meetups across the world could be held of say, 8-10 people? The meetings could be held simultaneously, with opening prayers asking for a new album of original Bob Dylan music (followed by bickering about the existence of God for remainder of evening).

I rarely get to talk geekishly about Dylan with anyone in person.

It could happen...

I'm afraid I'm going to be all alone in my local brewery. Don't know any other Dylan fans in Quebec City.
Such a great idea though..

I’m in Quebec sometimes, Scope, but
it’s not the easiest place to find good beer, y’know.

If this happened in Seattle, I would love to be there. So many great brew pubs to choose from. I did visit the Seattle Lagunitas taproom awhile back and found it quite charming. Plus the beer. Oh my. Any other Seattle Bobcats finding this idea interesting??
