Hi everyone

Just cannot seem to get enough of live versions of these two songs. Each live version I have come across so far amazes me at how the vocal delivery is different. Dylan seems to find some new phrasing when singing these songs.

My question is, have these two songs ever been sung live in one set?

Thanks

Phil

Ha! My brain still works!
My first thought was Lewiston 2008.
Checked boblinks and - Bingo.
That probably means he played them both together tons of times.
Looks like Ain’t Talkin’s in there, too, for a Tri-Fecta!

Anyhow, here’s that Set List:

Lewiston, Maine
Androscoggin Bank Colisée
May 17, 2008

1. Watching The River Flow (Bob on keyboard and harp, Donnie on lap steel)
2. Lay, Lady, Lay (Bob on keyboard, Donnie on pedal steel, Stu on acoustic guitar)
3. The Levee's Gonna Break
(Bob on keyboard, Donnie on electric mandolin, Stu on acoustic guitar, Tony on standup bass)
4. Shelter From The Storm
(Bob on keyboard and harp, Donnie on pedal steel, Stu on acoustic guitar)
5. Rollin' And Tumblin'
(Bob on keyboard, Donnie on electric mandolin, Stu on acoustic guitar)
6. The Lonesome Death Of Hattie Carroll (Bob on keyboard)
7. Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum (Bob on keyboard, Donnie on pedal steel)
8. Mississippi
(Bob on keyboard and harp, Donnie on electric mandolin, Stu on acoutic guitar)
9. Highway 61 Revisited (Bob on keyboard, Donnie on lap steel )
10. Workingman's Blues #2
(Bob on keyboard, Donnie on pedal steel, Stu on acoustic guitar)
11. It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)
(Bob on keyboard, Donnie on banjo, Tony on standup bass)
12. Spirit On The Water
(Bob on keyboard and harp, Donnie on pedal steel, Tony on standup bass)
13. Ballad Of Hollis Brown
(Bob on keyboard, Donnie on banjo, Denny and Stu on acoustic guitars, Tony on standup bass)
14. Summer Days (Bob on keyboard, Donnie on pedal steel, Tony on standup bass)
15. Ain't Talkin' (Bob on keyboard, Donnie on viola, Stu on acoustic guitar)

(encore)
16. Thunder On The Mountain

17. Blowin' In The Wind

Well, actually it was not tons of times, but I had to consult my own database for this one, as I have extensive performance histories for both of these gems (including mp3 links).
http://www.notdarkyet.org/workingman.html
http://www.notdarkyet.org/mississippi.html

I saw them both in Spain in 2008, three days apart
Jaén, Andalucia, Spain - July 5, 2008 - workingman blues
JÉREZ, SPAIN 2008.07.08 - MISSISSIPPI

But together in one set they have only appeared three times:

2008.02.22 -DALLAS, TEXAS

2008.05.17 - LEWISTON, MAINE

2011.10.20 - ROTTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS

It only stuck in my “database” because the Electric Mandolin appeared during Highwater in the same room in 2013(?), and I recalled thinking, at the time, it was a cool echo back to one of the other Lewiston shows I’d been at, which turned out to be 2008.

Your database is WAY better, Dark!
Always appreciate your fact-finding missions.
Interesting that there are only 3 instances where those 2 songs came together.

Also Lewiston seems to be the only place Ain’t Talkin also shared the Set List with Mississippi & Workingman’s, for what it’s worth...ha ha.

Is it in rare recording here? Haven’t looked yet.
I really should go back & give it a listen.

Can't get over how good Rotterdam 2011 is! And I thought Milan was the highlight of the year...
