A story appeared on ER homepage last Friday (Life on the road ..) about former band member Regina McCrary and her strong on-going friendship with Bob. According to Regina they got together a few months back and wrote a new song entitled 'Don't make her Cry'. Regina said,'It has not been recorded YET'.

Mavis Staples said that she and Bob were going to record a new song in 2017. I am putting 1 and 1 together and making 2. Gospel album anyone?

I honestly rather take another Sinatra album than a new Gospel album, originals or not.
But I agree looking at the evidence, with the BS13 and all, it's likely.

Sir Dogg you don't mean that you don't want a new album of originals if it means it will be gospel? It would end up being one of his most unique albums

It would be a Gospel album almost forty years after the original trio, with all that extra life experience to go with it. It would be fascinating. Anyway, what else is a seventy-six-year-old believer going to write about? It would bookend his first album nicely, which also featured death a lot, but from the opposite perspective.

I think the assumption is being made that if Dylan did cut an album of gospel originals again it would be similar to his "gospel era" albums, but I don't think that would be the case. He is obviously a different person than he was back in '79, and it's possible that his views on spirituality are a little more refined. What if we got a Cohen-esque Dylan album? That would be interesting. But whatever he's doing, if he is doing something, I'm looking forward to it!

The Blackwood Bros. have been talking to me about making a record together. That might confound expectations, but it shouldn't. Of course it would be a gospel album. I don't think it would be anything out of the ordinary for me. Not a bit. One of the songs I'm thinking about singing is "Stand By Me" by the Blackwood Brothers. Not "Stand By Me" the pop song. No. The real "Stand By Me."
The real one goes like this:

When the storms of life are raging / Stand by me
When the storms of life are raging / Stand by me
When the world is tossing me / Like a ship upon the sea
Thou who rulest the wind and water / Stand by me

In the midst of tribulation / Stand by me
In the midst of tribulation / Stand by me
When the hosts of hell assail / And my strength begins to fail
Thou who’s never lost a battle / Stand by me

In the midst of faults and failures / Stand by me
In the midst of faults and failures / Stand by me
When I do the best I can / And my friends don't understand
Thou who knowest all about me / Stand by me

That's the song. I like it better than the pop song. If I record one by that name, that's going to be the one.

If it was a Gospel Album it would be the original "Tempest"

if there was any truth in the talk of a gospel album it would probably be a very different beast to where we left it in the 80s.
