It's amazing to me where Bob finds arrangements for his songs. Someone pointed this out on youtube, so I looked it up. I'll be darned. Good for him for using it. It's a great groove.

Brian Wilson is fantastic. Like Bob, he's a West coaster. Good point.

All credit for that track has to go to his brother Carl.

I was generalizing but that track kind of sucks anyway, so I'm not surprised.
But Carl was a major talent too.

Indeed, Long Promised Road, Feel Flows and The Trader shows his great musical ability. But not this one.

Haha. That's great..they ripped that off to a T.

Caught my only show this year last Friday, to me, it was Honest With Me that sounded like a Beach Boys song. I was thinking more Cars or Devo for Thunder on the Mountain.

Tryin' To Get To Heaven kind of had an 80s pop ballad..Time After Time type feel.

Is there another version of Thunder on the mountain?

The released version sounds nothing like this Beach Boys song. Different groove, different tempo, different everything except for a blues structure. The beach boys song has that little sharp 5 thing in the turnaround. If you're gonna say Dylan lifted the arrangement, then there's a million other songs to name before this obscure Beach Boys thing. Thunder on the mountain sounds more like Johnny B. Goode!

I think they're talking about a current live arrangement. But I don't know for sure, I haven't listened to the recent shows (yet).

The current live arrangement. It's the exact same guitar riff, all the way through. Not that I mind. I just think it's funny sometimes the places Bob gets his arrangements. Beach Boys. Who would have thought?

I love it that you caught that, train. Did you just stumble onto it, or are you a big Beach Boys fan?

I like it as well. Gives the song a different flavor.

I saw it mentioned in a youtube comment on the Chicago video. I just looked up the song to confirm. I like the Beach Boys, but I don't know a ton of their music. I like what I've heard though. And I like Brian Wilson's album "Smile."

Fantastic stuff and Brian Wilson actually named one of his sons Dylan, after Bob. Brian recalls an anecdote in his recent autobiography of bumping into Bob Dylan in an LA hospital waiting room where Bob was in there with a broken thumb and them having a conversation about their favourite music and songs in a waiting room of all places!

That's a great story! A reminder to me that rock stars still have "normal people" moments.
