This plays at the end of the Trouble No More film, i.e. with the credits.

One of the greatest songs he ever wrote, and this version is probably superior to the album version, not only that but it's one of his greatest performances. His piano on this is great and Fred Tackett's guitar are both close to the famous demo version. But the bands treatment here is sympathetic and Bob actually sings the melody. It amazes me that such a great song as this is - even though it has been performed many times live - was never done the justice that this rehearsal does. I hope one day not too long in the future Dylan revisits this song with the same delicate treatment.

It's good but I still prefer the album cut. I like the guitar work in this rehearsal one though.

It's not on spotify for me, is that a region thing? Not available here in the US yet?

Another damp squib. The more I hear of this release, the less likely I am to stump up £16.99 for the standard edition.

good thing this track won't be on the standard edition then.
for me, the more I hear, the more likely I am to spend 150 quids on the deluxe edition.
probably the best every grain of sand ever, perfect guitar and piano.

buy the standard edition and ask a friend to lend the deluxe version to you.
you'll spare a lot of money.

this track was recorded only three days after the publishing demo for Special Rider Music with the dog barking, released on the 5LP set of the first bootleg series installment, more than 26 and a half years ago

nothing could ever take the place of the official version recorded more than 8 months later, which has a special place in my heart since August 1981, when I purchased my vinyl copy of "Shot of Love" during my year in Ohio, so I would not try to compare them and rate against each other

but if I would burn myself one CDR with the best songs of all 13 BS releases so far, this pristine 1980 rehearsal recording of his finest lyrics, which he had only just written that summer, would definitely be on it

----------------------------------------------------

here is a small part of the end from the Dave Herman interview from July 2, 1981:

Herman: There's a song on Shot Of Love, Every Grain Of Sand, which is about as a healing song as I ever heard from you. It's a beautiful, beautiful song.

Dylan: Oh, yeah, I wrote that last summer.

Herman: Is that what you mean by hopefully healing music?

Dylan: I would hope so.

to compare or not to compare - that may be a question - but not for me.
I do compare:
The Shot Of Love version is by far superior - but I liked to listen to this BS-version too.

No one's bothered by the cheesy 80's sitcom keyboard parts?

Nobody here is bothered by anything: they love Dylan and that means they *must* love everything because everything is awesome!

I'm also among the people who prefer the album cut. It's the most beautiful Every Grain Of Sand of all the ones I have heard.
This new version doesn't come close, but it's at least interesting to listen to. I don't see myself listening to it actively in the future however.
So far, the choices of pre-release tracks seem been to me. Makin' A Liar Out Of Me was underwhelming, the Slow Train soundcheck is something for the collectors. Yet I'm still convinced that this installment of the bootleg series will feature plenty of great stuff: The live versions of Caribbean Wind, Every Grain Of Sand and Precious Angel, just to name three examples.
And why do they keep on teasing us with tracks that are only part of the deluxe edition (except When You Gonna Wake Up)? All the pre-release tracks from The Cutting Edge were part of the standard, deluxe and collector's editions.

Its a great listen but the Bootleg Series 1-3 version remains my favourite, with the album version next.

I was thinking about that too. They may well be pushing for deluxe edition sales.

For anyone saying the deluxe version is too pricey, it's about $80 cheaper on itunes... still expensive but it helps
